Norman Wilner writes about movies for Toronto's NOW Magazine and Sympatico/MSN. His work has been published in Cinema Scope, Montage, Marquee and The Hollywood Reporter. He has appeared as a critic and commentator on CBC Radio, CTV Newsnet, TVOntario's "Saturday Night at the Movies" and Rogers' "Your World This Week". As a member of FIPRESCI, the international film critics' organization, he's sat on film-festival juries in Toronto, Montreal, London and Palm Springs. He was elected secretary and vice-president of the Toronto Film Critics Association.
PETER SANDER - Academy Award Nominated Filmmaker and Animator
Peter Sander’s career spans over 45 years in animation, producing, directing and creating animated series, specials and commercials for the international audience. By 1965, Sander was storyboarding, animating and directing commercials, television series and features such as “The Beatles”, “Yellow Submarine” and “Shot in the Dark” followed by a contract with the National Film Board of Canada’s animation department as a director. He was a full partner in Potterton Productions, moving successfully into production of television specials, including the Oscar nominated “Selﬁsh Giant”. Sander worked with partners such as the CBC, Global, CTV, Robert Munsch, Paramount, BBC, France Animation, Showtime and HBO. Currently, Peter Sander is developing two television series based on iconic music properties.
KAREN FORHAN - Toronto Youth Shorts 2009 Winner, Excellence in Film Direction
After completing an Honours undergraduate degree in Media, Information and Technoculture at the University of Western Ontario, Karen pursued a Master’s degree in Communications and Cultural Studies through Ryerson University and York University. Throughout her studies she has held teaching assistant positions, written for publication, presented at conferences and, most thrillingly for her, had the opportunity to write and direct her first film which was featured in last year’s festival, winning the directing and editing awards. She hopes to keep exploring her passions for film, writing and social justice.
