POSSIBLE LESSON PLAN AND ACTIVITIES – African Masks product

Lesson 1

Brief: Design and make a fabric panel inspired by African masks. Write a five point design specification.

Show finished products on system, explain theme.( power point?) Explain how to take design from inspiration pics. Students start design ideas from laminated sheets.

Homework

Bring in recycled fabrics (not denim or stretchy).

Research one geometric and one floral print maker and one of your choice. Include fabric, product made into and target market.

Lesson 7

Starter: Introduction of making diary

Making

Plenary: Knitted, woven and bonded fabric identification.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lesson 2

 Pupils continue to produce design.

Show method of developing a design using power point. Discuss number and size of pattern pieces.

Pupils draw out design actual size and take a tracing which will be used as pattern pieces.

Lesson 8

Starter: Spelling test AFLstyle

Making.

Plenary: Match decorative technique to the names, work in table groups

 

 

Lesson 3

Explain method of appliqué. Dem how to pin paper patterns and cut out around the edge.

Starter: Fabric construction – knit, woven and non-woven.

Show different fabrics, talk about texture and colour.

 

 

Lesson 9

Starter: Fibres power point. Complete fibres work on sheet.

 

Making.

Homework

Mount samples on paper, written account of how  made.

Lesson 4

Pupils start cutting appliqué shapes.

 

Homework

Design 3 products and present them with detailed annotation including target market.

 

Lesson 10

Starter: Peer assess each other’s making diary

Making

 

Lesson 5

Making continues.

As necessary dem couching and appliqué. Students make a sample just before they do the process on their product.

 

 

Lesson 11

Making and finish.

 

Homework

Catch up on any missed work and prepare to hand in.

Lesson 6

Starter: Look at examples of forward planning.

 Making.

Teacher works individually with students to make the product of their choice. Written instructions provided for G&T. SEN students may only make a decorated panel.
