Welcome

to St Mellitus Church website. We
are a parish in the diocese of Westminster, covering the western part of the
Finsbury
Park area of north London. Some years ago we counted over 70 countries as the origin of our congregation.

The times of Mass at the weekend are Saturdays, 6.30pm; Sunday morning, 10.30am; Sunday evening 6.30pm.

CONFESSIONS: AS WELL AS AT THE ADVERTISED TIMES, A PRIEST (FR MARK ELLIOTT-SMITH, CHAPLAIN OF THE WHITTINGTON HOSPITAL) WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE CHURCH THIS TUESDAY 8th APRIL FROM 6.30 TO 7.30pm

The plastic bank bag collection has now been transferred to the Philippine appeal. This will run until to Easter 2014.

There is a rough summary of the Pope's document, The Joy of the Gospel, on the Pastoral Issues page. The link to the document itself is on the next page down, with a summary of the discussions in the parish.

Our Patron Saint

St Mellitus was a Roman monk, sent by Pope St Gregory the Great in 601 to follow St Augustine in Britain. After 3 years in Kent among the East Saxons, he became the first Bishop of London. When he refused Holy Communion to members of the royal family who had reverted to paganism, he was banished to France. In 619 he was recalled, became 3rd Archbishop of Canterbury, and died in 624. A suitable candidate as patron saint of asylum seekers.

The parish supports the cause of the Austrian Blessed Franz Jaegerstaetter. Born 20th May 1907, he refused to join the army in 1943 on the ground that Nazism was anti-Catholic and executed at Brandenburg on 9th August 1943. He was beatified on 26th October 2007 at Linz.

OUR THANKS to Ales Benca, a Slovak now preparing to study for ordination in Hungary, for restoring the parish website in June 2010, and to Marian Jubas for transferring it to our domain.
