I am an Associate Professor in the University at Buffalo Department of Economics. I am also a faculty affiliate of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL) and the Center for Global Action (CEGA), and non-resident research fellow at IZA and the Global Labor Organization (GLO).
My research focuses on understanding the drivers of disparate outcomes in education and rigorously evaluating approaches to improve them. I use economic theory, randomized experiments, and quasi-experimental analysis to quantify how individual decisions and institutional policies affect education outcomes. My current work focuses on education policy in developing countries (including Rwanda, Malawi, India, and others), and promoting student success in higher education in the U.S.
