Let's
be honest. Tobacco is a thief and a killer. Smoking kills more Americans each year than alcohol, AIDS, car crashes, illegal drugs, murder, and suicides…combined

Just in Colorado, tobacco kills 5,100 smokers each year. And as it makes its way to our youth, 90,600 Colorado kids will die prematurely from smoking. On top of that, we pay an average of $753 per household in taxes for programs that address the consequences of smoking.

Yet tobacco is still a fixture in our communities and in many homes.
  • 56 percent of Colorado adults are exposed to secondhand smoke each year
  • 193,000 Colorado kids are exposed to secondhand smoke at home each year
Tobacco also continues to find new and younger victims as its older users quit or die:
  • 3,400 Colorado kids become new daily smokers each year
  • Roughly 1 in 10 male high school students use smokeless tobacco
