To those of you who are new to BLC , welcome and to those who have been with BLC in previous rounds and wanted a change we welcome you as well. We do things a little differently, which should be expected, after all we’re the FBI. In this FBI Headquarters page you will find everything you need to participate. We’ll get more into that a little further down.
I’m Mary (TRUNKJUNK) your Executive Director and I am so excited for the start of ROUND 26 "Marathon of Getting Fit and Healthy" and can't wait to meet each new team members (henceforth known as Agents). I’d like to keep things informal but there are a few rules we have to follow.
FBI Mission Statement – We Protect, Combat and Support. We’re to Protect our bodies so that we can live healthier lives. We’re to Combat obesity, weight-related health conditions and apathy. We’re to Support our teammates and be there for each other. FBI believes it takes many attributes to truly be a Beauty. We will need the following in our make-up bag – encouragement, inner strength, positive attitude, determination and commitment.
Our Team Mantra is simply – NO EXCUSES!
FBI is a fun-loving group that believes it takes good nutrition, exercise, strength training, a healthy lifestyle and the interaction of fellow Agents to help achieve our ultimate weight loss goals. We want to exude beauty in our posts, our support, our health and ultimately in our transformed bodies.
FBI expects our Agents will post often and compete in ALL challenges (barring approved exemptions). Of course perfection is great but most of all we strive for participation. When you participate we can work towards perfection. FBI is here to support, inspire and challenge each other as we work together toward our individual weight loss goals. We believe we learn from one another. Most of all FBI wants to have fun, form new friendships, make lifetime changes and most of all succeed as we pursue our weight loss endeavors.
Rules and Expectations:
FBI Agents need to be fit and trim or at least striving to get there. We are all about the exercise and eating well. Our hope is that each of you will make it a priority to get cardio and strength training done on a regular basis. We believe cardio at least 3 days and strength work (Tactical Thursday & Tuesday) at least 2 days a week are paramount for good success with our fitness goals. We also believe good, wholesome foods with a tiny bit of junk thrown in "once in a while" are important for our health and fitness. We aren't going to send the Top Brass out to enforce this but, since you are on this team, obviously you want to get or stay healthy and fit. Please set your standards high for exercise and nutrition and work your hardest to meet your own expectations.
1. WEIGH-IN WEEKLY: You MUST weigh in and post your weight each week on Wednesday by midnight of your time zone.
2. POST OFTEN: We work best when we all feel a part of a team FBI. That happens when we each feel as if we know each other. We get to know each other when we read about you, your struggles, your achievements, your families and lives on the chat thread. Nothing is off limits as long as it's respectful and tasteful. We are here for fitness and weight loss but we are also here for friendship. This is really important - since it is a TEAM CHALLENGE - you need to become part of the team - just posting a weigh-in, or one quick post a few times a week is really making it an individual process...and if we as individuals could do it alone - we would have already done it! We find the more successful FBI Agents are the ones who'll post at least once a day and sometimes several times a day. If you are feeling left out, you probably aren't opening yourself up, so let it all out! :-) If you feel ignored - say it! Nobody means to ignore anyone, but sometimes on large teams it's easy to get lost - please do not be afraid to speak up. This is a TEAM EFFORT and we are each a piece of the puzzle. Share what works for you, what doesn't. ENCOURAGE each other along this road to forming new healthy lifestyles. Please ask questions!
3. RESPECT YOUR FELLOW AGENTS: Sometimes print communications get misunderstood. We want to encourage a safe and comfortable climate here. Please be respectful with each other. If you feel offended by a post, re-read the post. It's possible the "tease" was not clear or the "wink" was not seen. Also, we each come from different backgrounds, cultures and belief systems so some may think or believe differently than you which are fine! If you truly feel offended by something, please discuss it with the other person or with the Executive Director or Deputy Director OFF THE THREAD via Spark Mail. Let’s give each other the benefit of the doubt.
4. PARTICIPATE IN CHALLENGES: We will have Weekend Challenges every week Friday-Monday. Participation in these is MANDATORY. They are fun and are designed to get you on track and keep you on track. Results of these challenges will be posted and shared. If you have a valid reason why you need to be excused please Mary or Trisia.
We have lots of daily and weekly events to keep us challenged and engaged like Tactical Thursday and Tuesdays (TTT). Other tasks will be QOTD (Question of the Day) a daily Quote, Motivation Tip, Weekly Team Digest and Overall Biggest Loser, Celebrations, Team News, WECs (weekend challenges, etc.). We will also track our exercise minutes.
As FBI Agents there is no crying but nonetheless if you feel the need to cry let us know so we can cry with you. We’re a team.
**MEET YOUR LEADERS CORNER**
Mary (Trunkjunk) is Executive Director. Hello I’m Mary and I live in Michigan. I’m retired and currently volunteers at the airport. I’m a Christian and am married to the love of my life. We celebrated 28 years this past . I always say I lost my independence on Independence Day. I have 2 grown adult daughters. One lives in Tennessee and the other lives in Michigan. I have 4 grandsons - 21, 19 and 9 and 1 favorite granddaughter.
I’ve been a part of BLC since Round 11. I started out with the Mochas and then on to the Pink Vikings. I did one short stint with the Tigers and then 3 rounds ago I was given the opportunity to start the Fuchsia Beauties Incorporated (Team FBI). I immediately thought of Trisia as a person that I would want to co-captain with me. I had only known her for a short while but I knew she had the integrity and tenacity to be a great leader. We both knew what we wanted to see and not see in a team. After countless, emails, texts and phone calls we created team FBI and worked tirelessly to build this team from scratch after neither of us having had team captain or co-captain experience. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in 2 rounds and am looking forward to our 3rd round.
It’s hard work but we’re committed to Team FBI.
Trisia (Tree57) is Deputy Director (AKA as Mary's right hand ;) I live in Texas (but not a native) with my wonderful best friend (soon to be 21 year wedding anniversary) and teenage son (soon to be 15 yr old), along with the boss of the family, Lucy Lu Lu, a very communicative, 7 year old chocolate and tan miniature dachshund, who thinks she is human.
My first two rounds of BLC were with Pink Vikings where I met Mary, who then invited me to become co-leader of this brand new team....FUCHSIA BEAUTIES INC. (FBI). As Mary stated above, we knew what we wanted in a team, and put our heads together to create from scratch this awesome team. We have have worked tirelessly to form a team with integrity, honor, and beauty. This is FBI's third round. I am the numbers guru...creating and maintaining all our rosters, emails and spreadsheets and reporting all our numbers to BLC Admin. It's been a huge learning experience for me...and as Mary said, it's hard work, but we are totally committed to TEAM FBI.
Julie (Julienmm) is Special Agent in Charge of Tracking. My name is Julie and I am a mother, wife, and technical writer. I live in San Jose, CA with my husband Bill and two children, Jeremy (14) and Jenny (12). I also have two step-daughters (Debbie is 17 and Allyson is 25) and two twin cats JJ and Casper. I spend a lot of my free time shuttling my daughter to dance classes and taking both kids to basketball practices. While Jenny dances, I walk to get in my cardio. I also joined a fitness class that's once a week at the dance studio.
I have been a member of SparkPeople for 3.5 years. I joined on January 1, 2011 and joined my first BLC in March 2011. I lost 50 pounds in the first six months -- just in time to be a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding. I maintained for a year or two, but then gained all the weight back. So I'm back to where I started, unfortunately. I started BLC in round 16 as a Forest Green Pixie, then spent 4 rounds as a co-captain with the Navy Ninjas, and then 3 rounds as a co-captain with the Golden Phoenix. I have been with the FBI for 3 rounds now.
Sharon (TruthNow2) is Special Agent in Charge of Motivation. This will be my fourth round of BLC... I began last September with two rounds as a Pink Viking and last round as a proud Fuchsia Beauty... I am very grateful that I found BLC and then found my way to this team and honored that our esteemed directors, Mary and Trisia, have entrusted me with Motivational Mondays.
I believe strongly that each person must identify her own effective motivation: what works for one person may not work for another. However, I also believe we can help each other by sharing what works (and doesn't work) for us. Sometimes, we find new ideas to help spur on ourselves and others.
I plan to blend the Marathon running themes of the BLC-wide weeks with the themes of our own FBI team (Protect, Combat, Support, etc). MM might include a question (to which agents hopefully will offer a personal response), a link to motivational material, and/or building on what has been said during the week.
Mary Lue (LUV4KATZ) is Special Agent in Charge of Celebrations. This is Mary Lue’s sixth BLC round, and her second as an F.B.I agent. She hails from sunny Southern California. “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”
Mary Lue will be doing Celebration Central posts to help us celebrate our achievements and special days over the next twelve weeks. She’ll remind us there is a Superhero in each of us, ready to keep us strong, powerful, and focused F.B.I agents who celebrate every success.
SharonLee (sharon2014) is Special Agent in Charge of Physical Health. She lives with her DH and one spoiled Australian Shepherd in Michigan. She participated with the F.B.I. team during the last round and has a special interest in physical health. Expect to be challenged to move more and have fun while doing it! You will develop a flexible, individualized workout routine that includes stretching, flexibility, balance, strength training as part of TTT (Tactical Tuesday and Thursday). Whatever your ability and level of fitness, we will provide resources to help you progress in what you are able to do. You will be challenged to incorporate more movement into your daily lifestyle. You will learn more about the basics such as breathing, posture and exercise safety.
One key feature for F.B.I. Agents is Tactical Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays will focus on the lower body (Back, Abdominal, Legs, Hips, Thighs) and Thursdays will focus on the upper body (Arms, Shoulders, Chest). The basic routines can be individualized and will be progressive - every week you will be challenged to push yourself a little more. The routines will be flexible in that there will be variations that can be done from a chair or couch or bed!
Prepare to be challenged - prepare to have fun - prepare to get fit!
