Events, skills and stuff on paper with dates

It is always fun to look back at what was and be amazed at how far one has come, or not. With this in mind I am going to try to keep a log of the skills I learn, as well as other moments, and when they happened.

Sept 23-25th, 2011 - Attended the annual Albuquerque fun fly, where I received 2nd place in the expert competition and crashed the 550e in the weeds during the timed auto competition. It was a good time and it was awesome to see everyone again.

Mar 12th, 2011 - Did my first inverted blade scrape! A bunch of Logo flying guys at the Las Vegas FF made the remark that my blades were awful perfect, not a scratch on them ... how all their blades had lots of road rash on them ... how I wasn't a real man until I too had road rash on my blades. Okay maybe I made up that last part but they did push me to try it and so I did, and was successful!

Mar 11-12th, 2011 - Attended the Las Vegas Fun Fly. A normally large event that had a smaller turnout this year. There were pros everywhere though. One highlight for me was meeting Jason Merkle and getting a tour of the TP facilities. The best part of the FF was all the Logo guys. Not only did they fly some sweet machines but they were great to hang out with, even if one slipped during an interview and said he was flying an "Align 600" while holding a Logo 600SE ;)

Jan 1st - Mid Feb - Pretty much a total loss for flying due to unusually hard winter.

Nov 6th, 2010 - TJinTech 1 year anniversary! A total of 23996 visitors have stopped by the site and viewed 83786 pages over the past 365 days! These visitors came from 122 countries with the top 4 being the US, Canada, UK and Australia, only 3 visitors were from China. This day also held two firsts, the first day to surpass 200 visitors and the first week to surpass 1000 visitors. Wonder what next year will bring? ;)

Sept ??, 2010 - Attend Albuquerque Heli Fun Fly for 3rd year in a row. No pros this year and that turned out great! I achieved 1st place in the intermediate challenges and 2nd in the drag race.

Aug 22nd, 2010 - Figured out tic-tocs after lots of trial and error.

July 31st, 2010 - Maiden TRex 550e. I flew 5 times on just one pack, charge-n-fly, charge-n-fly ;)

July 17th, 2010 - First auto on Protos! Then did 10 more ;)

April 11th, 2010 - Tossed a paddle on the Protos. Weak spot on Protos flybars where threads are cut.

May 6th, 2010 - TJinTech has been online for 6 months and has 7576 visits and 29897 page views from 85 different countries says Google Analytics. Not bad.

March 28th, 2010 - Enter the world of the Spartan gyro, a world where gyro's just work.

March 6th, 2010 - Finally doing back flips on the deck. Am now comfortable doing them 6ft up.

Feb 26-27th, 2010 - Attend Phoenix Fun Fly. This is always a fun event with a VERY high average skill level of the attending pilots. I pretty much go to watch since my skills are WAY below most of the other pilots. This year was the year of the 700Es. Tim Jones was there with The Beast, Ray was there with his conversion and interestingly enough there several Avant guys there and they had the new e-Aurora 90. And I am not forgetting that Jason Krause and Kyle Dahl were there also ;)

Jan 25th, 2010 - Switched from Deans to XT60. Call me a happy camper!

Dec 21st, 2009 - 1000 flights down!

Nov 9th, 2009 - Maiden 2nd Protos. This one I built from scratch and did it right cause it sure is a nice bird!

Nov 6th, 2009 -
Open the doors on TJinTech.

Nov 3rd, 2009 - Maiden TRex 250, fly it 4 times and then have it sit on the shelf for 6 month before selling it.

Sept ??, 2009 - Attend Albuquerque Heli Fun Fly for 2rd year in a row. Matt, Todd and Jason were there and we all had a great time!

Aug 9th, 2009 - Trim the grass inverted with my 450! And crash cause it sucked me down into the grass. But who cares!!! This was one of the things I worked hard on and finally after a great day of flying in Bernalillo, I just did it.

June 26-27th, 2010 - Attend fun fly in Grand Prairie Texas. Those 2 days were some of the hottest I have ever experienced. Temp was 101F from 10am until dark and the humidity was 90+% the whole time. The highlight was meeting Jamie Robertson and getting to watch him bang on his 700e and then talk back to the pits with a big grin on his face every time. What an awesome pilot, what a miserable fun fly.

April 24th, 2009 - Charge my first pack on an iCharger and change my charging life forever. Out with my Cellpro 10s and in with the iCharger 106B+ for sure!

April 18th, 2010 - First real auto. I did it on the Raptor 30, which auto great, and it was very scary but I pulled it off.

March 29th, 2009 - Maiden Raptor 30. Just for kicks I piced up a Raptor 30 for like $200. It had the OS .37 in it with mostly good servos. I flew 24 flights on it over about 6 months but quickly became tired of engine issues, so I sold it. It was the biggest bird I had ever flown and I did do my first auto on it, so it wasn't all bad.

March 19th, 2009 - 500 flights down!

March 12th, 2009 - First inverted hover. It only lasted about 3sec but it was a start.

Feb 27th - March 1st - Attend Phoenix Fun Fly and be amazed by the talent there! We drove up at 8:30am after driving straight through from Socorro only to see Kyle Dahl flying his Logo 600. Not long after we got to see Jason Krause fly his 700n for the first time after a 6 month break and man was he awesome to watch. It was a great weekend for sure!

Nov 2nd, 2008 - Great weather and so I decided to see how many flight I could get in one day. The final number was 21 and I was burned out from it.

Oct 10th, 2008 - Maiden GP ElectroStik. Fly it 10 times and then hang it on the wall to be art.

Sept 26th, 2008 - Went to first Heli Fun Fly, the Albuquerque Annual Heli Fun Fly. Had a blast and got to see some pros, Matt Botos and Todd Bennett, fly for the first time. Came home with a serious need to fly attitude!

Sept 12th, 2008 - Maiden the Protos. One of the scariest things I had ever done. Big powerful, wandering all over the place heli.

July 13th, 2008 - Did first back flip. I bought a well used TRex 450 SE off the forums and got it in the air. It was at that point that I learned something very valuable, better hardware helps! The 450 flew so much better than the King2 that it instilled all kinds of confidence. On my 11th flight on the 450, I did my first back flip. I did it mostly because of an online guy saying we were all being too cautious. So I went out and showed him and it was awesome! I have never shook so bad in my whole life as I did right after that back flip. I actually don't know how I got the bird back on the ground in one piece.

July 10th, 2008 - Maiden the TRex 450 SE.

May 31st, 2008 - 200 flights down! Can pretty much hover anything, anywhere, anytime.

April 29th, 2008 - 100 flights down! Getting pretty good at hovering and learning to move the heli around. Learning how to run the throttle in order to hold elevation in wind.

April 23rd, 2008 - Started practicing nose-in hovering.

April 4th, 2008 - Did first piro.
Mar 9th, 2008 -
Mainden the Mini Titan.

Feb 29th, 2008 -
Getting the hang of hovering. Made a video for a RR ESky thread contest, where we had 2 12in boxes 6ft apart and we were to take off from one, land in the other, take off again and land in the first on again and then repeat. I pulled it off reasonably well and was totally psyched!

Feb 19th, 2008 - My first hover!!! I flew 2 packs and I almost hovered the entire 2nd pack!

Jan 26th, 2008 - The parts arrived to fix heli and I tried my first hover. ESC fried and heli went full throttle for 10min! That day I learned patience.

Jan 17th, 2008 -
Installed Real Flight G4 and started to learn the basics.

Day 1 - Jan 15th, 2008 - A box arrives and inside is a heli. Later that day I break it on the bench by hitting the "3D Mode" switch on the radio accidentally. I learned a very valuable thing that day and that was that this heli thing was going to be a little more complicated than I anticipated. Maybe it is not a skill but it was a valuable lesson.
