We will visit the high points of classical Greek culture, at least, by visiting 7 of the 18 UNESCO heritage sites of Greece, i.e., Acropolis (Athens), Corinth (Acts 18:1-18. Corinth was where the apostle Paul came, worked, established a thriving church), Epidarus, Nafplion, Mycenae (antiquity), Olympia, Arachova, and Delphi among many other places.

Greece has one of the longest histories of any country, and is considered the cradle of Western civilization, having been the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, art, Christianity, medicine, the Olympic Games, Western literature, languages, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and Western mythology and drama, including both tragedy and comedy.  For additional information, click on the Greek Legacies.

Join us to develop your own respect for the history and beauty of Greece, but above all come to love her vibrant and welcoming people.

 Testimonials

The followings are some examples of comments by our travelers:

Dr. Khosrowshahi and his travel staff are to be greatly complimented for having planned and achieved a superb educational adventure.  Prior to the trip, he teaches preparatory seminars that are integral in providing a deeper understanding of the many facets of Greek history.  With a trip such as this, a teacher's challenge is to carefully organize thousands of years of Classical history to be revealed during the actual explorations of the sites.  Everyone on this trip soon became aware that they were living a once-in-a-lifetime experience; the blending of the real and the actual within the Ancient World.

Dr. Douglas Witte 2017

Dr. Khosrowshahi is well-organized, kind, energetic, giving, knowledgeable, and obviously respected and well-liked by colleagues and students. During the trip, we marveled at the calming effect that Dr. Khosrowshahi had in keeping the group informed, well-educated, relaxed, and cohesive as a group in all our diverse experiences and locations!

Both my husband and I have traveled extensively outside of the USA, a few of those trips have been with groups, and many of our travels have been on our own. We are both rather independent people and enjoy our own rhythm and freedom. HOWEVER, we wholeheartedly acknowledge that we could not have been as successful on our own to create such an organized, comprehensive, diverse, and inclusive trip such as the one that Dr. Khosrowshahi offered to us. Additionally, Dr. Khosrowshahi was sensitive and accommodating when we sought our own experiences - independent of the group. Because of his great communication before, during and after the trip, we developed a great deal of admiration, respect, and gratitude for Dr. Khosrowshahi.

We also want to offer our gratitude to Tyler Junior College, and all the administrators that made it possible for Dr. Khosrowshahi to organize and guide this extraordinary trip to Greece! It was a beautiful journey, and without your support, this trip would have been a reality!

Professor Stephanie Sabato (JCCC, Kansas) and

Mr. Joseph E. Gorski, U.S. Treasury Department 2017

Going to Greece was the trip of a lifetime for me.  As usual, Dr. K took all the headaches out of the trip for the travelers.  His countless hours of work showed in how well organized and smooth the entire trip was from start to finish.  His effort showed attention and order down to the last detail.  The accommodations were lovely, the meals were wonderful, and our tour guide entertained us even when off the clock by playing piano at the hotels.   And then there is Greece.

Greece is absolutely beautiful.  The history, the people, the landscape, the culture, the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Theater of Epidaurus, Nafplion, Mycenae, and Olympia were amazing.  The Sanctuary of Apollo, the Monastery of Hosios Lukas, and the Temple of Poseidon were breathtaking.

Dr. K had us learning even on our bus rides.  He had games teaching us about ancient Greece and the sites we were visiting.   Everyone played.  Everyone wanted to win something.  The visit to College Years in Athens was impressive, and we actually ran into a group of the students from there at the monastery.  I believe all who traveled were enriched in so many ways.  I am so grateful to Tyler Junior College for allowing these kinds of opportunities.  I am very grateful to Dr. K for providing the best possible experience and representing TJC in such a positive light both locally and internationally.

Gay Howard 2017

My wife and I traveled with Dr. Khosrowshahi to Turkey in 2005 as part of the TJC learning experience for students and interested others.  We were so impressed that we gave a modest gift to assist future students to participate.  This year, we decided to join the TJC trip to Greece and invited our two grown children and spouses to join us.  Everyone in our party was impressed by the experience.

I am sure that the college has criteria for evaluating activities such as this travel experience.  Here are some comments that might assist you in your evaluation.  First, we hit the high points of Classical Greek culture by visiting 7 of the 17 UNESCO heritage sites in Greece.  Second, the students who participated were engaged and interested in the material and sites covered.  Third, the selection of guides and the logistical arrangements were well handled and appropriate.

Our party of six thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and felt that we learned a great deal from the experience.

Thanks to the College for making this experience available to non-students as well as students.

Community Member from Dallas

Upon returning to my office after an extended Spring Break, the first thing I wanted to do this morning was to write to you to express my deepest appreciation for the lovely experience I had March 10 – 19 in Greece with Dr. Khosrowshahi and the other travelers attending the trip made available to students, staff and the community by Tyler Junior College. My master’s and doctoral work was completed in rhetoric and literature, so Greece was one place I had always wanted to explore.

The itinerary covered in eight days was unbelievable. I could not believe that I was able to visit and spend time in Athens, Corinth, Epidarus, Nafplion, Myceanae, Olympia, Arachova, and Delphi all in one trip. I will never forget the sites, and I appreciate the learning that was brought back to my mind during the tours and by taking Dr. K’s quizzes. I will always remember listening to one of TJC’s advisers sing in the theater of Epidarus and watching one of TJC’s student's belly dance along with the professionals during our Greek Night celebration in Athens.

As one who has signed off on past Study Abroad trips for my own faculty and presented them to my President for final approval, I know firsthand the hours of planning and paperwork behind such trips, and I have witnessed the excitement and support of the students and community members who benefit from these Study Abroad opportunities. I had never thought traveling as part of such a tour would work for me, but Dr. K expertly managed our large and diverse group, and the experience was both enjoyable and seamless. I enjoyed interacting with the students and others on the tour, and I don’t believe I could have experienced as much in such a short time on my own.

I could go on about the value of this trip for myself, my husband and the other 40+ people who traveled with us, but the stack of papers on my desk is beckoning. I commend Tyler Junior College for its Travel Study Programs, and I am amazed by the scholarship opportunities available for those TJC students who wanted to travel abroad. I plan to make a tax-deductible contribution to TJC to help a future student experience a Travel Study trip, and I will definitely keep up with Dr. K and his future travels via email and Facebook. As a result of my positive experience, I also hope to renew my faculty’s interest in the concept.

Thank you again for the opportunity.
