Field Trips & Home School Days

59 Fun and Educational Field Trips

One of the things I most looked forward to when we began homeschooling was field trips. I could literally plan a field trip (or two) every week and be happy. However, I know that we do need to actually accomplish school work aside from field trips. I mean…looking at historical handwriting doesn’t exactly teach you how to write, ya know? Nevertheless, I have compiled a list of fun and educational field trips that can be added to any homeschool.

Creation Science Hall of Fame is now Open!

Dear Home School Organizations, Florida

The Creation Science Hall of Fame is now up and running. www.creationsciencehalloffame.org

It's designed for Home Schooled Students who need the necessary educational tools for their Creation Studies and papers. The CSHF was a "brain-storm" of a retired Science Teacher.

You will find a wealth of information on deceased and living creationists from around the world. On the "Darwin Skeptics" page, you will find volumes of Scientists who reject Evolution written by Dr Jerry Bergman, author of 'Slaughter of the Dissidents'. We even have a "Creation Classifieds" section for your selling needs.

Please help spread the news about the Creation Science Hall of Fame to all your Christian friends and family.

In Christ,

Nick Lally, Chairman, Board of Directors, Creation Science Hall of Fame

Creation Discovery Museum (FT. Lauderdale)

Creation Discovery Center is located at

2701 West Cypress Creek Road

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309

Over the last twenty years, our ministry has discovered that while many educational centers / museums have extensive programs showing many of God's wonderous works, almost none of them have attributed the works to God, but to evolution.

We have discovered a great need in the community for an interactive creation museum. There are many secular, evolution-based museums throughout the country, but very few museums which tell the story of our origins from a creationist’s perspective.

Homeschool Days - August 07 - September 29, 2017

Dollywood once again hosts Homeschool Days from Aug. 7 – Sept. 29, 2017. Homeschool children and their families can experience the park’s exciting new attractions, Drop Line, a 230-ft. tall drop tower, and Whistle Punk Chaser, a junior coaster located near Thunderhead. And as a special gift, Dolly provides a free lunch to all students visiting during our Homeschool Days.*

Not many classrooms measure 150 acres, but Dollywood is at the head of the class when it comes to fun, interactive learning in a beautiful outdoor setting. Dollywood’s rides represent principles of physics that thrill students in more ways than one. The park offers a unique zoology lesson at the spectacular Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, home to the country’s largest collection of non-releasable bald eagles. Centuries-old history comes to life as Dollywood features dozens of craft demonstrations daily. Students visiting Dollywood can see master craftspeople practicing unique art forms like glass blowing, candy making, blacksmithing, leather crafting, candle making, wood carving and pottery.

*free lunch is included with a qualifying student ticket purchase

Matheson Museum (GNV)

http://www.mathesonmuseum.org/

Many of you have taken advantage of the welcome homeschoolers receive at the Matheson Museum. A costumed docent (Miss Gussy) presents a 45-60 minute program emphasizing life in Alachua County and Gainesville during the late 1800's and early 1900's. This hands-on interactive program fits well with a Florida history unit. A Teacher's Curriculum Guide can be downloaded from www.mathesonmuseum.org.

The Thomas Center also offers a one hour tour with a costumed docent, a video and costumes for the students to enhance the presentation. My children found them both to be very interesting and Ms. Sharon's enthusiasm for her subject is quite infectious. Happily, they have added additional tours.

"Seminole and Timucuan Indians in Alachua County" Learn the truth about Native American culture in our county. and view a special 1st person presentation film.

"Snapshot of History" Learn how to take pictures of Alachua County's artifacts and Architecture.

"The Yearling" View the 1946 classic movie and discuss what family life was like in rural Florida.

"Famous Buildings of Alachua County" featuring 22 buildings around our county.

"Snacks with Miss Gussie" Have punch and cookies while listening to "Miss Gussie" reminisce about life in our area from 1867 to 1910.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as to what these programs offer. There are more programs in the works and they are very open to any suggestions about topics that you would like to know more about. Contact Sharon Faris at (352) 379-1235 or frafar2000@aol.com and she can give you more details and arrange for field trips. These field trips are generally geared towards 3rd grade and up.

Operations Manager

February 13th

Fort Menendez is pleased to announce our first Home School Experience of 2018!

The first programs will begin at 9:30 a.m. Each tour will be approximately 45 minutes, with a break between sessions for lunch. Guests should plan to spend approximately four—five hours with us. Space is limited so please call the museum at 904-824-8874 for reservations now.

The Home School Experience is an interactive experience facilitated by costumed guides providing history and instruction in the use of tools and games for each historical time period. Participants will also complete a take-home project in each program area. The Home School Experience includes a Timucuan Indian council house, a Spanish wattle and daub house, a Florida Pioneer one-room schoolhouse, exploration on the high seas aboard a replica 70’ Caravel and a mock archaeological dig. We will start the first programs at 9:30 a.m. After the 11:45 a.m. midday break, we will have our final two programs, ending at 2:15 p.m.. Following the programs you are invited to return to any of your favorite areas for an additional 30 minutes, thus ending your day at 2:45 p.m. We also invite you to visit the Old Florida General Store, featuring many unique, affordable, old-fashioned items.

The cost is $19.95 per person for ages three and up at the door. If you call and pay prior to January 31st, you will receive the discounted price of $17.95 per person. Payment at the time of reservation is required for the discounted price. Prices are for guests 3 years old and up. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. (* Please note: coupons or tickets purchased or received from outside retailers are for our General Public tour only and may not be used for the Home School Experience. ) These are guided educational tours, and are not to be confused with the General Public admission to the museum which is primarily "edutainment" in the Indian and Spanish areas only. The general public tour does not include the Archaeology or Florida Cracker Pioneer activities. The regular price for all 5 programs for school children and adults is $27.50 per person.

Due to the popular demand of this program, we may offer a second day if the first day sells out. Please let us know as soon as possible if you plan to participate in order for us to plan accordingly.

The Old Florida Museum is located at 259 San Marco Avenue at the corner of State Road 16 in St. Augustine, FL. Entrance is through the Old Florida General Store, which faces San Marco Avenue.

We also have overflow parking in the lot north of the museum. For more information visit our website at www.oldfloridamuseum.com or e-mail sales@oldfloridamuseum.com .
