The best way to learn how to use a tool, especially a technology tool, is - to USE it! Unfortunately, that's the problem with most technology training. You attend the workshop, listen and follow the steps and even feel pretty good about knowing how to create a blog, set up a wiki, whatever. Then a few days (weeks? months?) go by and it is all a dim memory because you never actually used what you received from the "sit and get" workshop.Learning by doing and then using what you learn is the idea behind this year's "do it yourself" technology training at TISD. Most Web 2.0 tools are designed to be intuitive and easily mastered by the average user. Most also include a host of learning resources such as help forums, videos, etc. Choose to do DIY training and you will also receive the flexibility of scheduling your learning when it fits YOUR schedule. No need to hire a sitter or endure a marathon computer session - learn when and where it best suits your schedule. This training is suitable for those who are fairly comfortable with technology and have summer access to the Internet. If you have set up your own Facebook account, you probably qualify for DIY training! If, however, this does NOT sound like you, there will be a face to face class on emerging technologies you may attend on August 5th.To learn more or get started with the self-paced, DIY training, click on the Training Steps page for complete instructions. The checklists below will be used to help track the class' progress. Remember, you have until July 30th to complete all the steps!
