Burning tools

Brasero is the default burning application under Ubuntu. Brasero is also known for causing all sorts of problems and issues under Ubuntu. Best to do is de-install Brasero and install another burning tool. There are burning tools which are a good replacements for Brasero:
  • K3B
  • Xfburn
To remove brasero follow the steps bellow:
- Open a terminal
- Type the following command: sudo apt-get remove --purge brasero and press Enter
- If required, type your password and press Enter

Installing K3B
To install K3B, open Synaptic Package Manager (System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager). press the Search button and type in k3b. When the search is done, mark the following packages for installation:
  • k3b-data (This will also select the other packages needed to install K3B)
  • libk3b6-extracodecs (This will install FFMPEG and mp decoder plugins)
When the packages are marked for installation, press on the Apply button.

Installing Xfburn
To install K3B, open Synaptic Package Manager (System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager). press the Search button and type in xfburn. When the search is done, mark the following packages for installation:
  • xfburn
This is the only package which will be selected and installed. When the package is marked for installation, press on the Apply button.


Xfburn is a lightweight burning tool like Brasero which works almost the same as Brasero. The layout is easy to use and clearly understandable. K3B however is, compared to Brasero and Xfburn, a heavy weight burning application which has many configuration options. K3B can be compared with a burning tool like Nero.
