Professor Tim Hatton
I am Professor of Economics at the University of Essex. I also have an affiliation with the Australian National University. I am a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the UK and of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. I am also a Research Fellow of the CEPR (London), of CReAM (London), of the IZA (Bonn) and of CAGE (Warwick).

My principal research interests are in economic history and the economics of international migration. My recent projects include the analysis of the correlates of health, as measured by height, in Britain, Europe and elsewhere since the late nineteenth century.   Another branch of my research is the study of refugees and the flow of asylum applications to the developed world. I am currently working on public opinion on immigration and asylum and the development of policy, especially in the European Union.
