Entered war 9th August 1915 at Gallipoli with the 1/5th battalion Essex Regiment (T.A.). The 1/5th spent the war in the Middle East and Frederick died in France with the 10th Essex, how and why did he change? Did he volunteer or was he pushed?

KEMP, JAMES Corporal. 7996. 1st Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment. 64th Brigade, 21st Division. Died 17/09/1916. HEILLY STATION CEMETERY, MERICOURT-L'ABBE.
Entered war 8th September 1914.
Fighting towards Gueudecourt, it is possible but unknown if James was hit here.
Died of wounds 17th September.
Effects to mother Ruth £1/2/9d, £25/18/2d plus war gratuity £13.

KEMP, WILLIAM. Private 7997. 1st Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment. 18th Brigade, 6th Division. Died 06/02/1915. Aged 29. Born 1886. BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. Native of Tilbury, Essex. Son of Emma Kemp, of Tilbury.
Entered war 8th September 1914.
The war was bogged down by rain and mud. In 1915 sniping, shelling and routine fighting as opposed to major attacks were the order of the day. It is impossible to say how William was hit but he was taken back to the hospitals at the coast where he died of wounds.

Father Charles, mother Emily. Lived near farm half way between Little Yeldham and Tilbury Juxta Clare. Father agricultural labourer.

PARMENTER, LEWIS. Private 44155. 74th Labour Coy. Labour Corps. Ex-64459 Kings Liverpool Regiment Died 09/01/1920. Aged 39. TILBURY-JUXTA-CLARE CHURCHYARD In North-East part. Son of William and Eliza Parmenter, of Tilbury, Great Yeldham.
Called up 20th February 1917 while living at 114 Grosvenor Street, Manchester. Working as a labourer. Ex-1st Essex Volunteers 3 years.
Discharged with chest and lung trouble 24th September 1919 and given pension of 13/9d a week. Died from heart disease at home 9th January 1920. Character ‘Good.’
COX, ROYSTON VERNON Signalman 5958013 Royal Corps of Signals. Died Tuesday, October 1, 1946 Age 24. BELCHAMP ST. PAUL (ST. ANDREW) CHURCHYARD. Son of Benjamin Charles and Mabel Cox; husband of Gladys May Cox (nee Smith married 1942), of Highgate, Middlesex.
