The Team arrived at Manchester airport on the Friday for a flight to
Milan (Bergamo) in high spirits and team moral was sky high. Everyone had a
great laugh in the airport and it was amazing just how many people stopped and
stared at the kids, believing we were a professional club due to the boys wearing
full Errea tracksuits. On arrival at Milan airport we collected our self-drive
minibuses and drove for 1 hour 30 minutes to Parma and then checked into our
hotel which we all thought was fantastic; many football teams regularly use this
hotel when playing Parma FC. Once changed we hit the town for a great meal and
several beers!!! The city is a great place and very tourist friendly.
On the Saturday we travelled to Colorno FC which was only a 20 min drive
from our hotel, to be greeted by the Manager of the under 17’s team, who showed
us around the facility. We then played a full game of football on the semi-
professional pitch which was a great experience for the kids. The match was watched
by Fabrizio who came to meet us. After the game we had lunch with the Italian
team players and then spent the afternoon enjoying the sun at the Colorno FC
ground, before returning to the town on the evening for a quick change and then
more food and drink.
Sunday was a more relaxing day with a great day out at the water park and
all the boys loved messing around on the flumes and slides, and everyone had a
fantastic time. On the evening Fabrizio took us to his favorite restaurant and
we had one amazing meal!
Finally on the Monday we travelled to the Errea headquarters for a full
factory tour with Fabrizio, this was probably more interesting for the adults
than the boys but just finished the weekend off nicely. We then travelled back
to Milan airport and flew home, tired but happy. A great tour which was enjoyed
ASPIRING footballers kicked off their pre-season training with a competitive fitness programme used by professional athletes.
Youngsters from Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick Football Club (TIBS) were invited to WattCycle on Teesside Industrial Estate at the weekend to test out their endurance levels.
The Wattbikes are now becoming a common site among Rugby and Football Teams, endorsed by the all-conquering British cycling team as well as Manchester United, clubs are able to assess the pedal motion to highlight weaknesses in leg muscles and how power is distributed around the legs.
England and Manchester United are now using the Wattbikes as part of their pre-season training and general conditioning, so we wanted to give the young local lads a taste of how professional athletes train.
All the players really enjoyed the session and some of the parents got involved too. The team are going to start using the facility on a regular basis and we hope other sports teams get involved to help improve their athletic performance.
