Club Open Day and Official Opening of the new facilities.

The new and refurbished toilet/changing facilities have been officially opened. The annual Open Day was combined with the ‘cutting of the ribbon’ ceremony. The ceremony was one of the last to be presided over by the Chairman of East Northants District Council, Mr. Colin Wright, in his year as chair for the council. Thanks are expressed to Mr. Wright and the council for their assistance and financial contribution to the works. Thanks also to the Lottery fund for their donation, the builders System Contracts and the many tradesmen and members who helped along the way.The new facilities are a vast improvement to the clubhouse and grateful thanks are extended to all who helped in bringing the project to fruition and final completion. The list is long, however particular appreciation should go to the building project team of:Mike Ferry, Keith Ferry, Barrie Melville and Richard Horrell, without whose input this project would not have ‘got off the ground’. Keith Ferry also sourced the oak, other materials etc., and then set to and crafted the new benching and storage racking for the Gents Changing Room. Well-done Keith, lovely job! The Open Day was a great success. The Committee worked very hard to advertise the event and this proved very successful. There were many visitors attending throughout the day and several have already enrolled as new members. The club received countywide coverage from Radio Northampton. Thanks to Cyril and his contacts at Radio Northampton, the club was mentioned on Radio Northampton and visited by Jules and team from their Treasure Quest programme at the start of the day. Treasure Quest is on air on Saturdays from 9.00am to 12.00pm. Bowls Northamptonshire County Coach, Mr. Barry Basford, worked tirelessly throughout the day to give assistance and advice to the visitors and bowlers. His time and expertise was greatly appreciated by all.

Men versus Ladies match 21st April 2018…

The Green looked superb, played well and the sun shone!

It was a promising start to the season.

Twenty-six members turned out for the first match of the season. Three Triples and one Rink. Play lasted for approximately an hour and a half and everyone was ready for the tea and biscuits at 4:00pm. It was a pleasant, if tiring, afternoon of bowls.

County Competitions June 2018. Well done to all bowlers who have been taking part in the County Competitions over the past few weeks. We have had first and second places, all worthy of a mention regardless of outcome. Good luck to all who are still in the competitions.

Manfield Cup. The Manfield Cup Competition will take place on Saturday, 30th June. There will be sixteen men from Thrapston Bowls Club playing at four different venues throughout the county. Good luck gentlemen.

Sunday 22nd July. Club Gala Day. For our new bowlers, a brief description – we normally invite local and not so local bowlers to enter teams of four, they are drawn to play games in two sessions and the top two teams from each session play off. There are cash prizes to be won, during the time off the green people socialise, buy raffle tickets and play on the tombola....... plus the bar is open. The meal is that of a hog roast. We do also get visitors popping in who are not bowlers such as family and friends of competitors or club members. Entry sheets for the Gala are available at the clubhouse. This event is usually a great fund raiser and a great day, meeting with fellow bowlers making and renewing acquaintances both on and off the green.

And the results......

Winners: Kevin Stevens, Darren Childs, Katie Smith & Jamie Walker

Runners-up: Andy Fowkes, Danny Walker, Will Walker & David Walker

Congratulations! Thanks to all those who helped and participated to make the day such a success.

Green Grading The Club was visited on 6th July 2018 by the Green’s Inspectorate for Bowls Northamptonshire, and we’re very pleased and proud to advise that the green was once more awarded an A star rating. Grateful thanks are extended to Barrie and Les for all their hard work throughout the whole year, not just the bowls season, to ensure that our green in one of the best in Northamptonshire.

Fund raising Jumble Sale Grateful thanks to all those who helped and well done to Ruby for all the organisation. £472.80 raised.
