Research and education, irrespective of fields or levels, have been encouraged to be accomplished in a more globalized context. It is easy to announce this idea to people but extremely difficult to implement the idea in reality. We have to be really pro-active. This is only be made possible by actual face-to-face communications, shaking hands each other, talking endlessly till midnight, and hugging each other with warm friendship, rather than a mere exchange of ideas by emailing, reading published papers on both sides or some other superficial and virtual contacts.

The two universities have already established an academic exchange agreement “Agreement on Academic Exchange between Taiwan National Tsing Hua University and Osaka University” at the university-level. This is evidenced by the official document in which the president of National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and the president of  Osaka University,  Japan have mutually agreed with the objective of promoting cooperation between the two universities. To be more practical, the agreement encourages us to promote the activities of :

   (1) collaborative research, lectures, symposiums, etc., and the exchange of researchers pertaining thereto (2) exchange of information and materials in those fields, which are of interest to both parties and (3)exchange of undergraduate and graduate students.

To trigger academic exchanges between Taiwan National Tsing Hua University and Osaka University at the student level, we plan to have “Life Science Student Activity Fair”.  The official agreement documents that for the purpose of promoting exchange among students, each university shall endeavor to encourage graduate student participation in the event of research exchanges between researchers.
The “Life Science Student Activity Fair”, though it needs further agreements in details on both sides for more effective implementation of the spiritual profoundness of the university-level academic exchange agreement, will surely contribute to sustainability and mutual learning processes of the agreement.
