Biblical Significance:
Palm Sunday is the day the Christians remember as the day Jesus made a triumphant entry into Jerusalem, exactly a week before his resurrection.  Although the route Jesus took began from Bethany to Jerusalem, the present Palm Sunday road starts from the Mount of Olives and ends inside the Old city of Jerusalem which is a little less than a kilometre.
It is calculated that the exact day of Jesus’ Royal Entrance into Jerusalem was on Sunday 28-th March AD 33.  Jesus, for the first and the last time, allowed Himself a public acknowledgement that He is the Messiah and rode on a colt from Bethany to Jerusalem, fulfilling Zechariah’s prophecy written more than four hundred years ago.  By this act, the Jewish religious authorities realizing the strong messianic prophecies were very much agitated.
On the procession into the City of Jerusalem, the disciples and the crowd shouted ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord, Blessed is the King of Israel’.  Hosanna in Hebrew means ‘Save now’ and in Greek it is used as a shout of praise or adoration.
