What is the nature of attraction?  Is deception inherently evil?  Can love right all wrongs?  Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare's most beloved plays, looks at love in all its moods and attempts to answer these questions.  This classical adaptation, performed by the Thistle Rose Players, is sure to warm your heart this February.

Thistle Rose Player are proud to present this workshop featuring Baba Kamaal Amenra and Ms. Basira Norris.  In this workshop they will be teaching the basics of African percussion and movement.  For those wishing to participate in the movement portion, please wear clothing that is easy to move in and breathable (lapa optional) and expect to be in bare feet.

For those that don't want to or are unable to move/dance, you are encouraged to stay and observe.

The 2018 Thistle Rose Academy Holiday Concert, “Merry & Bright”, will feature stunning music, both secular and sacred in collaboration with the St. Owen Chorale and director, Mr. Bradley A. Lieto.  We believe in honoring all people and cultures and this concert is no different. A variety of ensembles will be featured including the mass choir of the Thistle Rose Community Choir and the St. Owen Chorale; TRAA La La; the Children’s Choir of St. Owen; the St. Owen’s Bell Choir; and a Chamber Orchestra. The concert includes music from around the world celebrating culture and Christmas and inviting us all to be part of peacemaking.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s cheeky and charming operetta abounds with pirates, maidens, and a Major General with the true gift of gab. Young Frederic, instantly smitten by the lovely Mabel but beholden to a Pirate King, and beleaguered by the Major General, must fulfill his sense of duty while staying true to his love.

Mozart’s final composition — the Requiem — is a work of surpassing eloquence, beauty and power.  Mozart’s Requiem is also one of the most popular of all choral works, with an intriguing history to add mystery to the music: Mozart, already a sick man, had illusions that he was writing the Requiem for himself!

This year's seasonal holiday concert will include a multitude of holiday classics, both secular and sacred.  The centerpiece of the celebration will be a performance of John Rutter's "Gloria."  Composed in 1974 on a commission, Gloria is a classically-styled musical setting of parts of the Latin Gloria.  Rutter structured the text in three movements and scored for choir, brass, percussion, and organ.

A sweetly funny coming-of-age tale, 13 tells the story of Evan Goldman and his impending Bar Mitzvah.  The stories that come to life here are ageless, the emotions they explore are timeless, the laughter and the memories they provide are priceless.  The score is by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County).

This performance will take the audience on an historical journey, featuring the evolution of music as we know it. Offerings will range from Renaissance madrigals, to sea shanties, to patriotic tunes from early America and even Mozart’s “Dies Irae” and “Lacrymosa” from his Requiem. Please join us on this inspiring voyage through musical history. 

The Public Domain Show, an original show with script by Morgan Goodley and featuring music selected solely from the public domain, is the first show for the TAF Performance Group as part of the newly-formed Thistle Rose Academy of Arts.
