The Baker School is participating in the International Walk to school day Oct 5th

Why Promote Walking and Bicycling?

Communities are using the walk or bike to school as the first step to change community culture and create environments that are more inviting for everyone, young and old. Here are some reasons to support walking and biking to school:

To enhance the health of kids
Increased physical activity can combat a host of health problems facing kids today.

To improve air quality and the environment
Replacing car trips to school with walking or bicycling can help reduce air pollution.

To create safer routes for walking and bicycling
Sidewalks, education programs and traffic calming measures are some of the ways to improve conditions.

Car free Day on Wednesday this week.

Didn’t you walk to school everyday when you were a kid?

The Purpose of the Baker School green team is to create opportunities for students, parents, teachers and administrators to Help promote our town wide CO2 emissions reduction campaign. The Baker School green team is part of Climate Change Action Brookline, CCAB

The Baker School is looking to reduce it’s carbon footprint by sponsoring “Car Fee Day” every thinkEARTHursday.

Every Thursday of each month we will be tallying and posting monthly stats by grade of how much Carbon has been reduced.  Our goal is to reduce the number of cars going to school by 20%.   If you are unable to participate on Thursday, pick another day that you will not drive are think of something else you can do to reduce your Carbon footprint. If you must drive you can help reduce carbon footprint by doing the following; carpool, drop your kids off at a friends house who drives, drive part way and the kids can walk part way and last but not least turn your car off when dropping off.

This is an activity where everyone wins, kids get more exercise, they get to walk to school with friends and it eliminates parents having to go out of their way to drive to school all while reducing our Carbon footprint.
