National Letter of Intent

February 6th, is the date for high school senior athletes to sign their National Letter of Intent. For Student-Athletes with Educational-Impacting Disabilities this is a time to investigate where they plan to attend college. There are many factors that must be considered before making their final decision. Read about these factors before signing your National Letter of Intent.

 Student-Led IEP Meetings

Student-Led IEP meetings are a great way to improve your child's advocating skills. One of the hardest things to do as a student with a disability is to advocate for yourself. 

Remember that if you have a documented disability, you may receive accommodations on your ACT or SAT testing. To receive these accommodations you must request them from the ACT or SAT. ACT/SAT Accommodation info

  • 6% of enrolled students in higher education have identified themselves as have a disability.
  • The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is 15%.
  • 44% of Students with Disabilities participated in adult education activities. 
  • 33% of students with disabilities in grades 7-12 participated on a sports team.
  • 5.4% of students age 3-21 have a Learning Disability. This is the largest group of students with disabilities. 
  • 13.6% of school age students 3-21 qualify for Special Education services. 
  • 43% of high school seniors who participated on an athletic team has plans to attend college. 
  • In the Fall of 2012, 21.6 million students are expected to attend American Colleges and Universities. 
  • 79% of Universities distribute materials designed to encourage student with disabilities to identify themselves with Disability Services. 
  • In 2009 all institutions reported enrolling approximately 707,000 students with disabilities. 
  • In 2007-08 10.8% of Students with Disabilities were enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
  • In 2005-06 57% of Students with Disabilities exited high school without a regular diploma. 
  • The average ACT score in the United States is a 21.1%.
