Who Are We?

Peter Vaslow, MSW, ACSW, is a social worker, therapist, and a retired Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service. He is a nationally recognized facilitator, trainer, mediator and management consultant. Peter has worked with organizational leaders and staff, federal, state and local government officials, businesses, service providers, administrators and community leaders, among others. He has helped these leaders focus their skills and resources to identify and reach their goals.

Sandy Elson has a B.A. in Sociology/Social Work and is a former social worker, with forty years of experience as an instructor and facilitator. She is an experienced speaker at conventions, seminars and classes, as well as an innovator in the field of online instruction and group discussion. Sandy has an extensive background in Customer Service and Experience.

Through life experiences with clients, family and friends, Sandy and Peter have been part of many end-of-life experiences. They have dealt with the end-of-life as professionals, volunteers, participants in religious ceremonies, and through their relationships and training with patients, patients' families, and medical caregivers.

Throughout their lives, Peter and Sandy have valued and practiced ensuring quality of life for all with whom they have been involved. They have become acutely aware that end-of-life situations often are not dealt with effectively or empathically. As one nears the end of life, the quality of their remaining time often gets neglected, ignored, or fraught with denial. Sandy and Peter have witnessed unnecessary and harmful medical intervention for those already beyond medical rescue. They have encountered patients and families who are unprepared for the end of life because of a lack of communication, leaving patients and families frustrated, angry, in pain, fearful, and feeling guilty about decisions that must be made, among other things.

With the help of their knowledge, personal and professional experience, and values, including helping to improve quality of life until the very end, Sandy and Peter
strive to help medical caregivers, patients, and families achieve better communication and better outcomes. They bring to The Wisdom of Ruth more than credentials. They bring the total of their life experiences, passion for quality of life, and dedication to ensuring that "dying is a part of living."
