Agarbatti Making Project At Gadchiroli


The Village Store (TVS) partnered with the Forest Department, Government of Maharashtra in April 2012 to provide regular income opportunity to 500+ tribal women of the district.

Gadchiroli forest circle is having 12.55 lakh hectare of the forest cover. which is 76 % of the total geographical area.  The area is inhabited by tribal population Madias and Gonds residing in small villages situated in dense forest area. 

The livelihood of the tribal is dependent on the forestry works  and collection of Minor Forest Produce (MFP). However, seasonal collection of MFP and works based on forestry operations are not enough and there was an urgent need to provide income generation activities to the tribal of Gadchiroli District. 

Agarbatti making project was launched with the objective of providing regular employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged women of the district  and also to develop Joint Forest Management Committees for the welfare of forest and forest produces.

Currently 150 Agarbatti Making Machines have been installed and are operational in the district and assisting 170 families with  regular income of Rs.4500 per month .
