TIDES E-NEWS UPDATE
March 25, 2015
Landscape News
Landscape Report – Please be sure and check the attached landscape report to see if any actions are recommended for your home. There are a number of Bed Preparation recommendations this time. This is a follow-up to our December call to give our landscape in the Tides a much needed spruce up—we called it a new coat of paint for our lawns. We are asking that all front area shrub and flower beds, bare stumps, and large exposed root areas of trees be tidied up to better control the weeds, keep moisture in the ground, and to enhance our overall appearance throughout our Tides community. You can use sterilized mulch, stones, ground cover, liriope, and etc. to prepare these areas. See Model Row information at the end of the Landscape Report for their services to make mulching easy.
Beautiful Bougainvillea Time -- It is dry season and our Bougainvilleas are thriving! They love the dry weather and are in full bloom. The downside is that the dry weather also results in heavy leaf drop especially from our Black Olive trees. It’s a colorful time of the year, but a bit more rustic look with the leaves falling. Our next lawn cutting should help reduce the number of leaves since the mowers have mulching blades. Some rain will help, too!
Lawn Cutting -- March is our last month of 2 cuttings per month. In April and May, we return to 3 cuttings per month and in summer we will return to 4 cuttings per month.
Weed Control – Home and Garden just completed the final turf weed control before the growing season begins. They also treated for white fly and for spiraling white fly this month to keep these pests under good control.
Sod Replacement—We have asked Model Row to help us with estimates of what each property needs (just front yards), so look for those recommendations in May, and we will put together a group order to expedite the replacements. Model Row will deliver and install sod at $.82 a square foot for orders under 250 square feet and $.70 per square foot for larger orders.
Tree Trimming -- FYI: Our annual tree trimming is tentatively scheduled for early July. Model Row will trim the lower hanging fronds for now, but the higher ones and the high seed pods will be trimmed when Duffy’s does the annual cutting.
