You may not think that video production would be one of the skills tech writers need to have in their "tool kit," but it is another mode of communication. The Occupational Outlook Handbook highlights that this is an area that is in increased demand.
The Metropolitan State College of Denver, for example, has a program in Technical Communication and Media Production. Here students can focus on corporate communication, interactive media production, video and media production, or technical writing and editing. The college offers a range of "cutting edge" courses, like video animation, streaming media technologies, and video production and editing.
Tech writers can be involved in creating a storyboard, writing a script, and shooting and editing video. This means being adept in using video editing software, like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro for Macs.
