Back home again .  School's in session , i am volunteering ( per usual ) and there are a ton of things to do before i can even start to do that .  First off , i must process all those videos i took over the summer coast - to - coast and with audio .  It's a chore .  Macs ® make it easier than other OSes .  iMovie ® and iDvd ®  .  Wanna' disk ?  We'll send one to you .  Just ask :)  At the school i'll be helping with the computer and photography clubs .  Probably all ages from 12 - 17  .  First time over to the Intermediate ( Jr. High ) and High Schools .  Not really .  I volunteered after school for Larry , too , with the varsity soccer team when he was in 10th grade .  i was their greatest athletic supporter .  i was !  i went to every game and saw them lose every one .  They scored three goals that season . .. and one was against them selves .  We came in dead last .  The Principal was fired after that .  She was horrible ( Ms. Guacoma ) or something .  She did not do sports and didn't want n e one else to either .  Liability issues I guess .  Right after she left Pahoa boys won the Division II State Basketball championship

Same with the PES Pahoa Elementary School principal .  Horrible .  Ms. Quaccia .  Everyone dis-liked her very much .  Pure petty tyrant .  We avoided each over the seven years i volunteered there . She's gone, too .  His or her story , as it were . . ..

Back to this post  .  We have had unusual amounts of rain this year and we get a lot of rain anyway .  i even bought a pool to store it all in .  On top of that , we have been hit with cold front after cold front .  Weird weather world this year again .  On the mainland same deal .  Albuquerque and Phoenix were literally burning with heat , dust storms and Habib

I certainly got my fill of the Southwest and will not go back unless it is to Silverton , CO again .  That was the high point of the trip in many regards .  Other than that , the Southwest is simply desert and junkyards , from my perspective . on the train . . and driving

Los Angeles  ? i do not know how anyone can - l i v e - there .  Too hot , too dusty , smells like Dakar , Senegal ,  glad i know fluent Spanish , it takes 2 - 3 hours to drive - through - it , and that's w/o the traffic at 4 am .  Pu-ey .  Sorry , Rob . You can come and visit us from now on :)  The smog or fog or vog or whatever it is makes it so one can see any thing any way .  I remember the night Rob and i tried to go up to Griffith Park to look around and the traffic had all settled up there !  Amazing .  Mondo Cali-homeless , too , and medical marijuana available everywhere on most ever street corner .  Nice place to visit  . ...  The souvenir store at Hollywood Bowl was okay as was the shop up Griffith Park , too ,  but other than that ?  Good Mexican food , i guess .  You can have it

Once again , and just to review : AZ was far too hot ,  NM was far too poor ,  CO is still okay in my book , UT is Utah ( pod people ) ,  NV is just Las Vegas ( and i do not gamble ) ,  CA is huge but still too plastic for my tastes .  Why stop here ?  Seattle WA reminded me of Baltimore : rainy and hilly .  Portland OR is pretty much a-okay with all the roses every where .  The difference between NM and CO was dogs and bicycles : CO having them and NM not .  i love the trains still .  Further north now :  MN - Montana is - h u g e - and takes 12 hours to traverse .  Pretty .  ND , MN and WI are all populated by people who like the cold and barren environments .  They get tornados and floods , too .  I seen them many times form the train .  S e r i o u s .  Chicago is great city , very clean , people are friendly , many , many things to do , and AMTRAK ® let's one off in the shadow of the Willis Tower ( the old Sears Tower ) .  The rust belt -  IL , IN , OH , PA , to Buffalo is still fuglee .  The Erie Canal is fascinating and AMTRAK ® does 100 mph ( 160 k )  through those woods . Albany is - a l w a y s - a long stop .  Boston's South Station is very impressive .  Sure beats Logan Airport is every important regard

New England ?  HAhahahah !  It's okay .  There is a certain familiarity to it that makes it both boring and homey .  Every corner you drive around seems like you've been there before .  Verrrmont and New Hamster ( VT - NH ) are two sides of the same coin , one conservative , the other liberal , to extremes .  ME and the Commonwealth of MA used to be joined ( and still are ) . RI is a blink of the eye driving on 95 .  CT is too close to NYC .  There you have it

i suppose i tend toward ME because i know it best and like the art exhibitions best ,  Andy Wyeth and Ed Hopper this past summer , much live music , and free wi -fi at the libraries ( outside - covered 24 x 7 )

. .and the people most of all - George , Robert , Bonnie , and Brad , all you Ma'ui-ites , and other trainiacs and Mainiacs     [ picture ]

Trains and train museums are everywhere coast - to - coast and i've go to say that meeting people ion the trains is worth the price of admission , ≠ US$395 r\t BOS - PDX on AMTRAK ® .  Those of you who have followed these posts know who and what i am talking about .  i just received a nice card from someone i met on the train

Home is where the heart is , they say , or , " . ..the place where , when you have to go there, they have to take you in .  i should rather say it is a place you don't deserve ."  -- Bob Frost -- Death of a Hired Man  http://www.ketzle.com/frost/deathire.htm  Home is pretty much where i hang my hat and has been over the years . It happens to be Hawai'i at the moment .  Between the full moon , retirement the night jasmine , the agreeable weather , the funky town we live in , and the easy , come as you are lifestyle here in the 50th state , it's a good deal

. .and the people .  Soccer this weekend and Boy Scouts , too .  Conflictive schedule .  Lei'lani is showing free movies on Friday night ,  Hawai'i celebrates 51 years on Friday ( day off for the kids ) and we'll be doing sleep overs starting with Tevaki on Thursday night  .  He and Andrew are ' Nazi Zombie ' experts
