ICSSR & MINISTRY OF EARTH SCIENCES SPONSORED INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON

SOCIETY, POLITICS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

In the twentieth century, the Climate Change is a great threat to mankind. Our accelerated economic growth have serious impact on our natural wealth causing water scarcity, reduction of bio-resources and bio-diversities, increased emission of carbon, increased food insecurity, increasing hazards and disasters, making people vulnerable, poor and marginalized.

To combat this climate change various international policies have been taken up in coping up and mitigation strategies. In order to plan effective adaptation actions the local level stakeholder’s management is eventually required. Local knowledge also has a credible authority for informing and influencing policy. Its focus on the community level is sharp and salutary.

As it stresses that communities are not homogeneous, it underlines the needs to pay special attention to those, especially women and the marginalized, which are more at risk and less able to adapt. It is about facilitating analysis of vulnerability and adaptive capacity by members of communities themselves. In doing this it applies participatory rules, processes and methods to enable local people to articulate and to plan action.
