·         ENJOY THE COUNTRYSIDE AND ENJOY ITS LIFE AND WORK

·         GUARD AGAINST FIRES

·         USE GATES AND STILES TO CROSS FENCES, HEDGES AND WALLS

·         IF A GATE HAS TO BE CLIMBED, DO SO ONE PERSON AT A TIME AT THE HINGED END

·         LEAVE LIVESTOCK, CROPS AND MACHINERY ALONE

·         TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME

·         TAKE CARE ON COUNTRY ROADS

·         MAKE NO UNNECCESSARY NOISE

·         KEEP TO PUBLIC PATHS ACROSS FARMLAND

·         LEAVE GATES AS YOU FIND THEM – IF CLOSED REFASTEN

·         PROTECT WILDLIFE, PLANTS AND TREES

·         COMFORT STOPS SHOULD BE TAKEN AT LEAST 20 METRES FROM BURNS OR OTHER SOURCES OF WATER    

 

CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER WALKERS

 

o   THE GROUP WILL HAVE VARYING WALKING ABILITIES, PLEASE CONSIDER THOSE AT THE BACK OF THE PARTY. ROTATE THE FORWARD POSITIONS. LEADERS WILL SET A REASONABLE PACE FOR THE RAMBLE, CONSIDERING THE LEAST ABLE.

 

o   THE LEADER MAY VARY THE ROUTE, LENGTH etc OF THE RAMBLE ON THE DAY TO SUIT THE WEATHER AND GROUND CONDITIONS (BUT MAINTAINING THE SAME OR LESSER DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY THAT IS QUOTED IN THE PROGRAMME).

 

o   AS FAR AS IS PRACTICAL, WALKERS SHOULD STAY WITHIN SIGHT AND EARSHOT OF THE LEADER AND BACKMARKER.

 

o   FOR SAFETY REASONS, MEMBERS ARE DISCOURAGED FROM LEAVING A RAMBLE PART WAY. IF YOU MUST DO SO, THEN ADVISE THE LEADER AT THE ONSET.

 

o   IF YOU ARE FEELING UNWELL DURING THE RAMBLE, PLEASE INFORM THE LEADER/BACKMARKER AT ONCE. DO NOT SOLDIER ON.

 

o   IN THE INTERESTS OF SAFETY, THE LEADER MAY REFUSE TO ALLOW ON A RAMBLE ANYONE HE/SHE CONSIDERS NOT TO BE PROPERLY EQUIPPED.

 

o   PLEASE ACCEPT THE ADVICE AND DIRECTION OF THE LEADER, CONSIDER THE OTHERS IN THE GROUP AND MOSTLY ENJOY YOURSELF.

                 FOR WALKS INVOLVING COACH BOOK 7 DAYS IN ADVANCE PLEASE by contacting walk leader from the programme, numbers above.

                 

 

                  EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING- Warm and waterproof clothing should be carried and strong     footwear,

                      preferably walking boots, should be worn. Hats and gloves are essential in winter. Walking boots are

                      recommended and poles are useful. In Scotland it may be winter on any day of the year. Medication

                      and ID- ICE card should be carried at all times.

 

                      FOOD AND REFRESHMENT – Food and drink should be carried. Liquid intake is important even on a

                      cold day. Sweets and chocolate can provide additional energy. Breakfast is essential.
