There To Care(TTC)

There To Care is a community group made up of residents from the neighborhood, primarily those along the North Shore of Staten Island.  Our purpose is to uplift the face of the community through its most precious resource--the children.  Our hope and mission is always to teach and instill good morals.  By offering quality programs we believe we can help to prevent the youth from the pitfalls of drugs and violence.

History

There To Care --a volunteer driven organization, has been serving the community since 1993.  A neighborhood meeting was sparked one evening, following an incident which occured between N.Y.P.D. and some young men from the West Brighton section of Staten Island.  During the meeting residents realized their community lacked a voice and representation.  This realization ignited some of the meeting's attendants: Fred & Arleen Alvira, Migel & Darleen Rivera, Daniel Funtas, Melvin Grant, Michael Watson, Eric Hines and Vincent Giles.  Fully fueled, this group was determined to be a powerful and positive force for West Brighton, Port Richmond, and neighboring communities.  Moreover, it was at this very forum in which There To Care was conceived!

Over the years, There To Care has held numerous events which include: neighborhood clean-ups, annual field days, annual Christmas celebrations, community forums,  fundraisers, marches, outreach, and vigil.

Past Programs: Karate

Brothers And Sisters In the Community, BASIC (1995-2000)  Youth Group - Weekly meetings held for teens to openly and safely discuss various issues important to the youth.  BASIC also offered resume writing and job placement.

 Current Programs

There To Care Track Club

RUNNING...since 1993!!! Track is There To Care's oldest and longest running program.  TTC's track club has trained dozens of children and young adults.  More important, this team has effected and changed lives.  Throughout the years There To Care's track club runners have trained, traveled, raced, and grown as a family.  Many who have gone on to college recieved partial or full scholorships.  Whether they're graduates or currently in college, former track members continue to keep in touch.  Some even return to assist with coaching.  There To Care strongly believes that at some point in time, all former members will "pass the torch" onto other youngsters striving to run in their footsteps.

Track is offered to kids ages 7-17.

Drama

TTC's ashekia Ensemble is an art program which offers children ages 7-17 an opportunity to express themselves creatively through drama.  Members are taught the techniques of acting, theater production, and given an opportunity to explore their interest in other areas of art.

What makes this program unique? In part, it is designed to offer members a time to fellowship, build friendships with others who share similar interest, and effect others positively.

The drama club meets every Saturday, except during July.  One Friday out of the month is Fun Friday.  On this day members "chill out."  Perhaps they'll see a play, play some games, or go bowling.

There To Care Soccer Club

Boys & Girls Under 12.  Learn the basics and beyond! Train and compete in competitive  soccer games.

Dance!

There To Care's newest program.  Dance! is offered to youngsters   7-17.  The technique of study for this cycle is African dance and movement.  Registar now, classes begin 3/18 and will be held at P.S.18 on Tuesdays and Fridays 6-7pm.  Enhancing our performing arts program, Dance! in collaboration with the drama club offers participants of both groups exposure and experience to the different  art disciplines.

COMING IN MAY...

B-BOYS & B-GIRLS

Get ready to BREAK IT DOWN the old school way! That's right, There To Care has it's own crew and you can be part of it too.  Staten Island originals will be having b-boy & b-girl ciphers.  Stay tuned!!!
