Rev. Valerie Doering Crisman, M.Div., Pastor of Mercy & Youth

Valerie was ordained to the youth pastor position at Pilgrim in 2009 but has volunteered with children and teens at the church since 2006. Valerie loves children and teens with a passion. Teaching, preaching, one-on-one counseling and discipleship are her particular strengths. A native Chicagoan, Valerie served as a volunteer chaplain at a homeless shelter on Chicago’s west side for two years prior to moving to the Boston area. She also served as a Volunteer Youth Minister in Juneau, Alaska through the Presbyterian Church’s Young Adult Volunteer Program. Valerie received a B.S. in social work from Loyola University Chicago and her M.Div. from McCormick Theological Seminary. She is married and has three children.

Rev. Dr. Robert Samsel, M.Div., D.Min., Pastor of Discipleship

Bob is the Pastor of Discipleship at Pilgrim Church since 2015. He is also a Intentional Interim Pastor and Church Health Analyst for VitalChurch Ministries and a private family therapist. Bob has been married to Dawn for 37 years and has lived in Beverly since 2001. They have two married children, two granddaughters and a grandson. Bob worked for 17 years as a software engineer before entering full time ministry; he has pastored in five New England churches over the past 25 years. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry in Family and Marriage Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
