Mallowan's Book Collection

In the Life of Max Mallowan Archaeology and Agatha Christie, Henrietta McCall (2001) writes:

There was much disappointment over the disposal of Max's library after his death. Max had a magnificent library... When he died the books were in his library at Winterbrook House and thus Barbara had a life interest in them...

A large part of the Ancaster Mallowan Collection is a collection of books and pamphlets that once belonged to Max Mallowan or his second wife Barbara Parker Mallowan. It is our intention to eventually list all of the books in the Ancaster Mallowan Collection so that this particular collection of Max's and Barbara's books is catalogued and available to anyone wishing to make use of them. Please contact the collection owner Mr Richard Tyndall (richard.tyndall@live.co.uk), if you wish to access the collection.

Lambert. W.G. & Millard. A.R. ATRA-ḪASĪS The Babylonian Story of the Flood 1969 London Oxford University Press   Synopsis: Ever since the original decipherment of fragments of Babylonian literature some 90 years ago, wide interest has been taken in the flood story, which is related in some way to the Hebrew account in Genesis. Hitherto the only complete Babylonian version has been a digest incorporated in the Gilgamesh Epic. Over the past five years large portions of the full Babylonian account have come to light, in which the hero is called Atra-Ḫasīs. This book offers the first edition and translation of the new material, along with improved forms of the Sumerian Flood Story (by M. Civil) and other Babylonian fragments. An introduction discusses the content and related material, while philological notes and a glossary help to elucidate the Babylonian text. Barbara Parker's name is written in the inside cover.
