About us

A little about The Lutherie Shop

Here at The Lutherie Shop we offer full service repair and restoration on all fretted instruments.  We strive for the highest level of quality in our craft and seek to insure our customers are satisfied with all aspects of the service we provide.  We work hard to maintain a solid reputation and “word of mouth” is the only form of advertising we employ.  As a customer of The Lutherie Shop you can be assured you will receive an honest evaluation of your instrument’s needs and be given solutions to fit your needs.  We operate out of a 2000 square foot climate controlled facility.  We maintain an ideal 40-50% humidity and 70 degree temperature year-round.  Our machines are connected to a central dust collection system in an effort to keep dust to a minimum.  Our finish and buffing rooms are fully separated from the rest of the shop and fed by a heated make-up unit mounted on the roof.

The Luthiers

Scott Rohden

I've been playing guitar since 1979 and after tearing apart and  rebuilding many of my early instruments, I went to work for several retail stores and did repair work for them. My formal training started in 1995 when I did a 2-year apprenticeship under luthier, Dave Plummer. After that I opened my own repair shop and operated that for 7 years until Tim and I joined together to open The Lutherie Shop.

Patrik Emmert

I have been playing guitar since 1990 when I fell in love with guitars in general. Having a natural passion and ability to work with wood I joined the two and headed off to Red Wing Wynona Technical Community College attaining a degree in Luthrie. After college I became a maintenance man for 12 years and performed repairs on the side. After coming on board with The Lutherie Shop in February of 2014 I look forward to a long career as a luthier here in Des Moines.
