Homemade Chicken Stock

Homemade Chicken Stock
*Prep Time: 5 minutes  *Cook Time:  1.5 hours  *Difficulty:  Easy  *Servings:  4 quarts
  • 3 carrots
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 1 onion
  • 1 bulb of garlic
  • 2 tbsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. pepper
  • 2 tbsp. thyme
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 16 cups of water
  • Chef's knife
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • Stock pot
  • colander
  • Large bowl or pitcher
  1. Give the carrots and celery a large, rough chop and put in stock pot.
  2. Quarter the onion, skin and all, and put in the stock pot.
  3. Cut the bulb of garlic in half and put in the stock pot.
  4. Rinse the chicken and add to stock pot.
  5. Add the salt, pepper, and thyme.
  6. Cover with water and bring to a boil.
  7. Lower to a simmer and let simmer for 1.5 hours.
  8. Half way through simmer, flip the chicken.
  9. After everything has simmered for 1/5 hours, remove the chicken from the stock pot and set aside to cool.
  10. set the colander over a large bowl or pitcher and strain the vegetables from the stock.
  11. Skim the fat from the top of stock.
  12. Use in your favorite recipe.
