Dr. Pepper Chocolate Cake



  • 1 (15.25 oz.) package Devil’s Food cake mix + eggs and oil to prepare cake, per cake mix package directions
  • Dr. Pepper
  • 1 1/4 tsp. almond extract


  • 2 ½ c. confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/3 c. Dr. Pepper
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract
  • about 1/3 c. chopped pecans


  1. CAKE: In a mixing bowl, place cake mix and preparation ingredients noted on the cake mix package, replacing the water with Dr. Pepper. Add 1 1/4 teaspoon almond extract. Mix together and bake as directed on the cake mix package in a 9x13-inch pan.
  2. Set baked cake aside to cool.
  3. ICING: Melt butter in a saucepan. Add powdered sugar, 1/3 cup Dr. Pepper, cocoa, and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Stir together and bring to a boil over medium to medium-high heat, stirring very frequently. Reduce heat slightly and boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool at room temperature for 25 minutes.
  5. Pour the warm icing over the cake, spreading as needed to evenly cover the cake. Immediately sprinkle with chopped pecans.
