David's user review of Cabanon Vis-a-vis Luxe

We bought this superb tent in 2003 from its first owner who had owned it from new for 3 years. It has been used twice a year by us but being a Cabanon it never really seems to age. We have made a repair to one of the sleeping compartment groundsheets to retain full water tightness. The only other issues are the normal rolling replacement of tent rubbers and some of the tent pole springs.

It has been to Cambridge (3 times), Warwick (twice) and Shrewsbury (once) all for Folk Festivals. It has been to Cornwall and Devon many times, France once and also other parts of the UK.

We bought it from its first owner, who lived in Bristol. I think the first owner told us that the tent was £500 new.

The good points:
  • High quality design, construction and materials
  • It is truly waterproof and storm proof
  • Being vis-a-vis the two sleeping compartments are separated by the lounge area, we found this ideal for sleeping parents one side and a bit of separation to the kids on the other
  • The coated flysheet is also a revelation in design as it provides added insulation on those cooler nights and when sunnier, being white and having a good air gap separation to the inner tents, keeps it far cooler inside. This was great in southern England and France
  • The (optional) sun canopy. As well as protecting the front of the tent from the sun it is also water resistant and provided an all weather outside area to set up a table and chairs. The sun canopy was an £170 option.
The bad points
  • It is a fair weight and it was a bit of a struggle to get the main part of the tent into the roof box
  • Being bulky it took up a lot of space in the car
  • That’s all really.
