Walks in County Down Down is a coastal county in the northeast of Ireland. It is one of nine counties which together comprise the province of Ulster. Down shares land boundaries with two other counties – both of which are also in Ulster (Armagh and Antrim). The tidal Newry River separates the county from neighbouring Louth in the province of Leinster. The County High Point of Down is on the 853m summit of Slieve Donard.
