About the Project

The Mission

To provide a minimum of 500 hand-stitched items of warm clothing (hats, scarves, gloves or mitts) for the homeless in South Florida.

How You Can Help

  • Knit or crochet items yourself
  • Teach others who would like to help how to knit or crochet
  • Donate unwanted yarn (preferably in darker colors)
  • Host a stitching party! Get your friends together to enjoy good company while you work
  • Network with other stitchers and tell them about the cause
  • If you own or manage a business, volunteer to serve as a drop-off point for our stitched items

Item Specifications

Items should be knit/crocheted to standard adult sizes, preferably in darker colors as most of the Mission's constituents are male. You can use any pattern of your choice, but a few simple patterns can be found on the Patterns page. Any yarn may be used, but if you are purchasing new yarn, we recommend that you choose kindly for the environment with sustainable and/or organic cotton.

Collection and Distribution

Drop-off points will be set up throughout the local area. For disabled stitchers for whom transportation to a drop-off is unavailable, special pickup can be arranged. If dropping off mitts or gloves, please enclose each pair in an individual zipper-lock bag so they do not get separated. The items will be distributed by the nonprofit organizations at their December 25th outreach events.
