The Humble Stitch Project is a community effort to show kindness to our homeless neighbors. The Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach serve hundreds of homeless men, women, and children in our community. Our goal is to provide one cold weather item for each of our homeless neighbors - a hat, a scarf, a pair of mitts - knitted or crocheted by the hands and hearts of caring people in their community.
In 2010, we were able to help 233 homeless individuals in our community thanks to our generous volunteer stitchers and yarn donors. In 2011, that number jumped to 588, and 2012 brought 810 items. For 2013's campaign, we hope to break the big 1,000 mark! Please help us give a little warmth to those who deal with so much coldness, not just in the winter, but throughout the year.
Got a Little Extra Yarn?
If you'd like to do something more, or if you don't have time to complete an entire scarf or hat, The Humble Stitch Project recommends KASCare's Knit a Square project. Knit or crochet an 8 inch by 8 inch square, and it will be joined into a blanket for one of the 1.9 million AIDS orphans in South Africa.
PLEASE NOTE: The Humble Stitch Project is no longer accepting squares for mailing. Please follow the instructions for mailing on the Knit a Square site.
