What We're Reading this December

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

A Monster Calls is a magnificent tale about accepting the hardest things in life.  Pictures beautifully illustrate the tale and its horrors, the good and the bad.  A tale about a boy who has to confront himself while caring for his dying mother.  Conor has no place to turn either at school or at home, bullied by his classmates and reminded of death lurking near at home.  Then in one night everything changes— a monster comes to visit him. Hardened by his difficulties, Conor is unafraid, though he will be forced to confront greater fears within.  Conor’s monster will show him how to accept the worst about himself and let all the horrible things out that he is holding within.
