Who Was this Man Melchizedek?

He will be a priest after the order of Melchisedek (Melchisedec) (Psalm 110:4). https://sites.google.com/site/theendtimewarning/who-are-the-144-000

Who ARE the 144,000? Melchizedek: They are the church triumphant! Mobile Churches! Chariots of God! The Testimonies for the Church ARE SPECIAL COUNCILS for the 144,000! daily to be lifted up by the Holy Spirit (Jesus), to breathe the pure atmosphere of spiritual holiness

I believe the 144,000 have been being chosen by God Himself as a Bride for His Son since October 22, 1844 until the number is made up, then the Sunday law legislation is put into effect. These literal 144,000 number ARE priests of the new covenant (three angels messages) (Heavenly Priesthood) upon earth while Christ is officiating in the Heavenly Sanctuary. These priests have been entering into the Heavenly Sanctuary through the 12 gates into the city of God by thanksgiving and praise. Psalms 100:4

12 Precious Stones of the Breastplate. 12 Pearly Gates of the Temple in Heaven:

The 12,000 from each tribe enter into the 12 gates at the TIME OF THEIR SERVICE. The Levites served certain times as their time of service came up for work from October 22, 1844 until the number is made up by the Sunday law legislation.

 The 144,000 are priests - chosen as Brides for His Son by God Himself - from October 22, 1844 until the Sunday law. These Brides come from His own people: Adventist leaders who live and give the three angels messages since 1844 until the Sunday law.

See Psalms 100:4 "Enter into his [12] gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts [to serve the people] with praisebe thankful unto him, and bless his name."

"It is character ALONE that God values" The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, p. 1445.2.

The Treasures of the Temple. The apocryphal book of II Maccabees (2:1-8) says that the prophet Jeremiah hid the Ark and the golden altar of incense in a cave on Mt. Nebo before the Babylonian exile. Jeremiah was taken to Tahpanhes in Egypt by a remnant of the Jews after the fall of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 42:1-43:7) , so it is conceivable that he secured the Ark in a cave on the way. Others say it is more likely that the Ark would be hidden under the Temple Mount or elsewhere in Jerusalem than on Mt. Nebo, which is about 40 miles East of Jerusalem. Perhaps the Ark perished in the flames when the temple was sacked and burned. Controversy over the fate of the Ark has been renewed in our time (Ref. 2).

The TEMPLE is FOUND in the 144,000. Jesus alleged: "I can destroy the Temple of God and in three days build it up. ... "three days" alludes to the change or decisive turn of events (see Hosea 6:2).  "After two days will He revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight"
(Hosea 6:2).

"Redemption draweth nigh" (Luke 21:28), in light of Hosea's ancient writings. Why?

First, Daniel's prophecy indicates a time of Tribulation (often called the Tribulation or the Seventieth Week of Daniel). "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy Holy City... and in the midst of the week [the Seventieth Week] he [the Antichrist] shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he [the Antichrist] shall make it desolate" (Daniel 9:24, 27).

Because 1,260 days after the Beginning of the Tribulation Week (March 13, 2013 Eighth King Jesuit Pope Francis starts his reign and lasts for 1,260 literal days until Sept 19, 2016 - which is cut short in Righteousness), will occur the Abomination of Desolation (Sunday law) in the rebuilt Jewish Temple (Adventists), i.e., "in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate" (Daniel 9:27).

Does the Scripture give credence to those who believe a time frame may be calculated for prophetic events such as the Rapture of the Church or the Re-birth and Restoration of Israel to true faith in Jehovah? Historically, the prophet Daniel calculated the length of the Babylonian Captivity from Jeremiah's prophecy."In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the Word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem" (Daniel 9:2). This author believes that such evidence has been available to the Church, through the prophecies of Hosea, to give us a credible time frame for the momentous events of prophecy that will close out this Church Age. "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your Redemption draweth nigh" (Luke 21:28).

The Spirit of Prophecy

"It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter" (Proverbs 25:2). It is only the Blessed Paraklete Himself that can remove the scales from our eyes to make plain the meaning He intended, when He inspired the writing of the prophecies. "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you Things To Come" (John 16:13). Much of what the Old Testament prophets composed by the Spirit's inspiration, was not understood by the prophets themselves, though they faithfully recorded Jehovah's message. "10 Of which Salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when It testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the Gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from Heaven; which things the angels desire to look into" (1Peter 1:10-12).

Gematria of the 12 stones on the high priest's breastplate:

Concerning the high-priestly vestments, we read particularly of the oracle - the Urim and Thummim (Ex.28:30) - provided for the guidance of the people in difficult and uncertain times. Details are lacking of the nature and use of these items, but we are informed that they were held in a pouch - called the breastplate (or, in some translations, breastpiece) - attached to the front of the ephod - the outmost garment of the high priest. This breastplate was formed from a single piece of highly-embroidered linen cloth one cubit long and half a cubit wide, folded over in two to form a square, half a cubit by half a cubit (about 9in.x 9in). It was adorned with twelve precious stones on which were engraved the names of the tribes - ie those of the sons and grandsons of Jacob arranged according to their order of birth. These were set out in four rows of three stones each (Ex.28:15-30)

“Behold the Bridegroom cometh. Jesus turned from them with a FROWN. They had slighted and rejected him. Those who received the message were wrapped in a cloud of glory. They waited and watched and prayed to know the will of God. They greatly feared to offend him. I saw Satan and his angels seeking to shut this divine light from the people of God; but as long as the waiting ones cherished the light, and kept their eyes raised from earth to Jesus, Satan could have no power to deprive them of this precious light. The message given from heaven enraged Satan and his angels, and those who professed to love Jesus, but despised his coming, scorned and derided the faithful, trusting ones. But an angel marked every insult, every slight, every abuse they received from their professed brethren. Very many raised their voices to cry, Behold the Bridegroom cometh, and left their brethren who did not love the appearing of Jesus, and who would not suffer them to dwell upon his second coming. I saw Jesus turn his face from those who rejected and despised his coming, and then he bade angels lead his people OUT from among the unclean, lest they should be defiled. Those obedient to the messages stood out free and united. A holy and excellent light shone upon them. They renounced the world, tore their affections from it, and sacrificed their earthly interests. They gave up their earthly treasure, and their anxious gaze was directed to heaven, expecting to see their loved Deliverer. A sacred, holy joy beamed upon their countenances, and told of the peace and joy which reigned within. Jesus bade his angels go and strengthen them, for the hour of their trial drew on. I saw that these waiting ones were not yet tried as they must be. They were not free from errors. And I saw the mercy and goodness of God in sending a warning to the people of earth, and REPEATED MESSAGES to bring them up to a point of time, to lead them to a diligent search of themselves, that they might divest themselves of errors which have been handed down from the heathen and papists. Through these messages God has been BRINGING OUT his people where he can work for them in greater power, and where they can keep ALL His commandments.” —{Spiritual Gifts, Volume 1, Page 157}

False prophets (preachers) were bribed by the apostate Jewish "chosen" organization, to tell the people to remain at the organized church. True prophets were telling the people when to flee Jerusalem, and Jesus began "gathering out" those who would take the gospel to the world, in 27 A.D. as one of the first works of His ministry, Desire of Ages, 232. This, of course, refers to the "gathering out" of His disciples.

"Christ was a protestant...The Reformers date back to Christ and the apostles. They came out and separated themselves from a religion of forms and ceremonies. Luther and his followers did not invent the reformed religion. They simply accepted it as presented by Christ and the apostles." E.G. White, Review and Herald, vol. 2, 48, col. 2.

False Prophets Bribed to Tell the People to Remain at the Apostate Church

Because false prophets were hired to tell the people to remain at the apostate church in the prefigure type, so the same thing is occurring, and must occur, in the antitypical literal fulfillment of Ezekiel 9. We will prove shortly that Ellen White says there will be another literal fulfillment of Ezekiel 9.

"To establish their power more firmly, they [The Jewish Leaders in context] bribed false prophets to proclaim, even while Roman legions were besieging the temple, that the people were to wait for deliverance from God. To the last, multitudes held fast to the belief that the Most High would interpose for the defeat of their adversaries. But Israel had spurned the divine protection, and now she had no defense. Unhappy Jerusalem! rent by internal distensions, the blood of her children slain by one another's hands crimsoning her streets, while alien armies beat down her fortifications and slew her men of war!" E.G. White, The Great Controversy, 1911 edition, p. 29.

Meanwhile, true prophets of God had warned the true people of God to flee Jerusalem/501c3 Adventism today. These people left the precincts of Jerusalem in the autumn of A.D. 66. However, they left the apostate Jewish church years earlier during the ministry of Jesus and the disciples, to comprise all the Christian churches dotting the hills of Judea. SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 5, 74-77, and Desire of Ages, 232.

"The angel represented in prophecy as delivering this message, symbolizes a class of FAITHFUL MEN, who, obedient to the promptings of God's Spirit and the teachings of His word, proclaim this warning to the inhabitants of earth. This message WAS NOT to be committed to the religious leaders of the people. They had failed to preserve their connection with God, and had REFUSED THE LIGHT FROM HEAVEN." E.G. White, The 1884 Great Controversy, p. 199-200.

The Little Time of Trouble:

Rev 13:5 the 42 months or 1,260 days is also known as the 3.5 years of the “LITTLE TIME OF TROUBLE” when in the WILDERNESS (obscure) the 144,000 (Bride of Christ/Mt. Zion/New Jerusalem/Zechariah 8:2) and their spiritual children (5 wise virgins) being FED truth so they will be able to STAND during the time of JACOBS trouble without a mediator (those who are martyred today for Christ who live and give the 3 angels messages will be raised back to life about 15 days before Christ returns the 2nd time). The Dark Ages WILL BE REPEATED, only in 1,260 LITERAL DAYS instead of the day for a year which occurred 538 AD to 1798 AD. The little time of trouble started March 19, 2013 when Jesuit Pope Francis the eighth and final King of the Papacy was coronated and he started his reign according to Rev 13:5. His reign lasts for 42 months or 1,260 literal days, or 3.5 years which would make it come to September 19, 2016. Then the time of Jacobs trouble starts and should last for the space of 1/2 hour or 15 days, then Jesus will return. But remember, time is CUT SHORT in Righteousness! The 1,260 days are cut short in righteousness, else no elect would be saved alive. Get Ready! Get Ready! Get Ready! says the angel!

The two legs of the image of Daniel 2 represents Protestantism and the Papacy. Islam is a child of the Papacy. Islam (ISIS) is what unites the Papacy and Protestantism to usher the Sunday law into effect.

ISIS compares to the "radical islam" or politically correct "violent extremism" only means they are practicing/doing their religion. ISIS compares to the 144,000 Adventist leaders who practice/do their religion . The 144,000 are the opposite in character of ISIS, with a character like Christ - meek and mild:

"The truths that we received in 1841, '42, '43, and '44 are now to be studied and proclaimed. The messages of the first, second, and third angels will in the future [now 2015 - Sept 19, 2016 which is to be cut short in righteousness] be proclaimed with a loud voice ( - at the Sunday law). They will be given with earnest determination and in the power of the Spirit." {15MR 317.1}

“The history of the early experiences in the message will be a power to withstand the masterly ingenuity of Satan's deceptions.” EGW, Letter 99, 1905.

Both the 144,000 historical doctrine believing Adventists and ISIS are THRONES/hosts/mediums/channels, each group for their own God they worship. The name Isis means "Throne". Goddess of all time—as merely the "royal throne"...Because Isis' name means, literally, "throne" in the Ancient Egyptian language, she is usually represented with a throne as a depiction of her power.

ISIS represents the throne of Satan. Special agents of Satan.

 The 144,000 are the Throne/mobile chariots/church triumphant of God and His Son...the two lobes of our mind are throne seats for God and His Son. Likewise, the 144,000 are special agents of the one and only true living God of the Universe. The 144,000 have been being chosen and numbered since October 22, 1844 until the Sunday law.

The Muslims who are not "radical" only means they are PROFESSING in name only (saying they are) to be Muslims similar to the modern Laodicean 501c3 SDA's.

Revelation 3:9 "

"Like the "people of judgement", the "lukewarm", "Laodiceans" who are "foolish virgin", "tares" being bound into theological 501c3 denominational "bundles" for the burning.

"No person can give to another his own mold of character. Let us duly consider the fact that we are to be saved, not as companies, but as individuals. We shall be judged according to the character we have formed." RH September 17, 1895, par. 4

The 144,000 began to be numbered as leaders of the historical truths of Adventism October 22, 1844. See (Psalm 68:24 “Your PROCESSION, God, has come into view (October 22, 1844), the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.”) The Sanctuary is the Most Holy Place or the Bridal Chamber or Huppa, the marriage chamber, the MIND of CHRIST, the WORDS of Christ become our own WORDS or language. The REALITY of KNOWING CHRIST our Bridegroom, our husband, our Ishi! (Hosea 2:16, Isaiah 54:5)

We as a Adventist people should have obeyed the third angels message and stayed in "The truths that we received in 1841, '42, '43, and '44 are now to be studied and proclaimed. The messages of the first, second, and third angels will in the future [now 2015 - Sept 19, 2016 which is to be cut short in righteousness] be proclaimed with a loud voice ( - at the Sunday law). They will be given with earnest determination and in the power of the Spirit." {15MR 317.1}

NOW, today, as the parable of the Ten Virgins predicts, the procession is divided into TWO GROUPS, one wise and one foolish. The five wise virgins who are GUESTS of the wedding feast and are also known as Sons and Daughters of the Bridegroom and Bride GO FORTH OUT of the 501c3 Adventist church into the banquet hall and the DOOR IS SHUT. Probation closes for the house of God at the Sunday law legislation. Probation closes for individuals who reject this message and their apostasy grows worse. They become like Judas to betray the 144,000 and their children who do obey. At the Sunday law, 501c3 Adventists realize they are lost. They are denied entrance to the feast, to Christ, the Bread of Life that comes to live IN THEIR MIND through thanksgiving and praise. Psalms 100:4.

May God bless you and keep you in His RIGHTEOUS CHARACTER/TRUTH!

Identity of Melchizedek. Mrs. White reportedly identified Melchizedek as the Holy Spirit, according to the memory of one man. There is no support in her writings for this teaching, and the memory statement is offset by denials of others who were present when Ellen G. White is supposed to have made this statement. She did not identify Melchizedek.

See Ellen G. White statement in the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 1, p. 1093, in which she says Melchizedek was not Christ.

If Melchizedek was NOT Christ - she is saying he is NOT the Holy Spirit.

In order for Christ to be a priest for Humanity he had to become a man. Could he have been a priest before He became a man? No.

Nader Mansour - Enoch, Elijah and the Sanctuary Service: http://youtu.be/zUsIyowPz64

The earthly Sanctuary points forward to a Heavenly Priesthood - Christ reigning/sitting on His Throne - the 144,000.

When was Christ ordained as a High Priest for His People: At Pentecost. Hebrews 1:9 "Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."

The Supremacy of the Son

…8But of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE (144,000), O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM. 9"YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS; THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS." 10And, "YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;…

Hebrews 8:6 "But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises."

WE no longer have a earthly priesthood - Christ IS IN HEAVEN -

"They were not to be present in person at the marriage; for it takes place in heaven, while they are upon the earth. The followers of Christ are to "wait for their Lord, when He will  return from  the wedding." Luke 12:36. But they are to understand His work, and to follow Him by faith as He goes in before God. It is in this sense that they are said to go in to the marriage.

 ". . . And all who through the testimony of the Scriptures accept the same truths, following Christ by faith as He enters in before God to perform the last work of mediation, and at its close to receive His kingdom--all these are represented as going in to the marriage." Great Controversy, page 427,428.

WE NOW HAVE A HIGH PRIEST THAT NO ONE HAD BEFORE THE CROSS.

Hebrews 9:8 "The Holy Ghost (Christ=Gate/door) this signifying, that the Way into the holiest of all (MIND OF CHRIST/character/thoughts and feelings=law constraining His and our daily choices = covering from 7 last plagues) was not yet made manifest (revealed), while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:" = sealing truth = Righteousness of Christ/truth/law/character/thoughts and feelings transforms our minds to be like Christ through His POWER (character). We get this by eating the leaves from off the Tree of Eternal Life - Bible promises - the Word of God are the leaves we pick off the Tree of Life to eat/incorporate into our daily choices.

THE EARTHLY PRIESTS - that serve in the TEMPLE (144,000) are the Throne of God (144,000) WHILE THEY ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST, the church Triumphant -

Christ's Eternal Priesthood
5who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, "SEE," He says, "THAT YOU MAKE all things ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN WHICH WAS SHOWN YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN." 6But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

In a sense, all of heaven is a temple. Because no sin is there and all of our conversation and thoughts will be totally pure and holy, we will be dwelling in the true Holy of Holies with Christ. (You might want to compare the Old Testament tabernacle’s Holy of Holies with the description of the New Jerusalem. The Holy of Holies in the tabernacle was a perfect cube fifteen feet high, fifteen feet wide, and fifteen feet long. Similarly, the New Jerusalem will be 1500 miles long, 1500 miles high, and 1500 miles wide—again, a perfect cube!)

Its Wall
The wall surrounding the New Jerusalem is 216 feet high and is made of pure jasper, a lavender quartz (Rev. 21:18).

Its Buildings
The buildings in the New Jerusalem are constructed of pure gold (Rev. 21:18).

Its Gates
The New Jerusalem has twelve gates, each of solid pearl. Three gates face in each direction, and they are all guarded by twelve angels. Written on the gates are the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Its Foundations
The New Jerusalem is built on twelve foundations, each of which is named for one of the apostles. The foundations are as follows. (The approximate matching color and the meaning of the gem are given.)
• Jasper (lavender)—wisdom
• Sapphire (blue)—repentance
• Chalcedony (white agate)—no sadness
• Emerald (green)—no counterfeits; genuineness
• Sardonyx (orange–green)—married happiness
• Sardius (ruby red)—meaning unknown
• Chrysolite (yellow)—freedom from evil passions
• Beryl (greenish–yellow)—everlasting happiness
• Topaz (yellow)—friendship
• Chrysoprase (light green–blue)—meaning unknown
• Jacinth (reddish–brown)—meaning unknown
• Amethyst (violet quartz)—meaning unknown

Its River (TCA 34C)
A pure river, as clear as crystal, flows through the middle of the New Jerusalem. Its source is from beneath the throne of God.

Its Tree
The river runs through the middle of the broad way of the New Jerusalem. On either bank of the river is the Tree of Life with its twelve varieties of fruit, yielding every month a fresh crop (Rev. 22:2).

The dimensions of the city of the Royal Family require the royal cubit. Thus, the height of the city wall is 248 feet.

12 Precious Stones of the Breastplate. 12 Pearly Gates of the Temple in Heaven  www.fivedoves.com

John Tng (19 Jan 2005)
"The Gospel in the Stones!"

Clay Cantrell first brought to my attention the following amazing article on the gematria of the 12 stones on the high priest's breastplate:

http://homepage.virgin.net/vernon.jenkins/oracle.htm

The article goes on to describe many startling features of the breastplate numbers.

In my opinion, the most startling feature of these numbers is that there appears to be a hidden message in the High Priest's breastplate. As it turns out, THE GOSPEL IS WRITTEN IN THE STONES!

For details of the gematria of these stones, please read the article referenced above. I shall just quote these numbers for my purpose in this article.

These are the 12 numbers -- gematria of the 12 stones on the High Priest's breastplate:

30      466      259
7        570        54
95      830      501
331    395      162

The 3 stones at the bottom layer form the FOUNDATION STONE. JESUS is the foundation stone.

888 = 331 + 395 + 162
888 = Greek gematria for JESUS
888 = Iota(10) Eta(8) Sigma(200) Omicron(70) Upsilon(400) Sigma(200)

On top of this foundation layer of stones, 4 stones stand erect like the letter "L" resting on its longer side horizontally as shown below:

30      466      259
7       570       54
95      830      501
331    395      162

The gematria of these 4 stones add up to 1480 -- the Greek gematria for CHRIST!

1480 = 54 + 95 + 830 + 501
1480 = Greek gematria for CHRIST
1480 = Chi(600) Rho(100) Iota(10) Sigma(200) Tau(300) Omicron(70) Sigma(200)

Thus the message contained in these 7 stones is JESUS CHRIST in Greek!

30      466      259
 7       570       54
95      830      501      <-----      CHRIST
331    395      162      <-----      JESUS

Think of the improbability of this 'coincidence'. Could Moses have anticipated Jesus 1,500 years in advance and designed the High Priest's breastplate gematria in Hebrew that conceals the name JESUS CHRIST in Greek? Given that Moses foresaw Jesus and knew Greek, he could not possibly have control over the births, the birth order and the names of the 12 sons of Jacob who existed a few hundred years before Moses was even born!

The 7 stones in which JESUS CHRIST is encoded in Greek, must have been ordered and positioned on the breastplate by design. There is no other plausible explanation. The Person who encoded the name JESUS CHRIST in these 7 stones by neccessity must be a seer, a mathematician and a linguist of the highest order. Moreover, by implication, the Designer appears to possess the ability to direct human affairs, control human births and the naming of new borns.

But there is more.

While the bottom 7 stones cry out JESUS CHRIST in Greek (Luke 19:40), the top 3 stones proclaim JESUS CHRIST in Hebrew! Amazing! There appears to be a coherent message in the High Priest's breastplate. One thing is certain. The 12 stones conceal a message concerning JESUS CHRIST.

30      466      259      <-----   JESUS CHRIST  (Hebrew: Jews)
 7       570       54
95      830      501      <-----    CHRIST             (Greek: Gentiles)
331    395      162      <-----    JESUS                (Greek: Gentiles)

755 = 30 + 466 + 259
755 = Hebrew gematria for JESUS CHRIST
397 = JESUS = Yod(10) He(5) Vaw(6) Shin(300) Vaw(6) Ayin(70)
358 = CHRIST = Mem(40) Shin(300) Yod(10) Chet(8)

The message appears to be directed to Jews and Gentiles (Christians) -- the Old and New Testament peoples of God since the Old and New Testaments were originally written in Hebrew and Greek respectively. The question may now be asked: Why did the Encoder of the breastplate message, as it were, engrave on the stones the name JESUS CHRIST in Hebrew and Greek? What is the message for the Jews and Gentiles -- the apparent intended recipients?

The key to the puzzle lies in the two remaining stones with gematria 7 and 570. What is the hidden meaning of these two stones? What is the overall message of the breastplate?

THE REPAIRER OF THE BREACH -- The Enigmatic Gap

By removing the two remaining stones from the breastplate, a breach is formed in their place as shown below:

                               30      466      259    <-----   JESUS CHRIST
7        570   <======                     54
                               95      830      501   <-----    CHRIST
                               331    395      162   <-----    JESUS

This is really fascinating since the combined gematria of the two stones is the same as that of the title "the repairer of the breach" found in Isa 58:12.

577 = 7 + 570
577 = Hebrew gematria for "The repairer of the breach" (Isa 58:12)

The repairer of the breach is clearly JESUS CHRIST according to Amos 9:11, "In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, andclose up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:"

The High Priest's breastplate is all about "the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus" (Heb 3:1)! The symbology is perfect! The hidden message engraved on the High Priest's breastplate pertains to our eternal High Priest, even Jesus (Heb 6:20).

There is no mistaking that the Encoder had designed the gematria of the 12 precious stones of the breastplate with the Temple in view! First, the stone imagery fits as the Temple is essentially built with hewed stones (1 Kings 5:17; 1 Peter 2:5). Second, the rectangular shape of the breastplate resembles the oblong structure of the sanctuary that houses the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies -- the very heart of the Temple.

Third, both the breastplate and the Temple are connected by the number 12 -- a very important number in the Temple design. There are 12 pearly gates in the Temple in Heaven guarded by 12 angels (Rev 21:21). The names of the 12 tribes of Israel are written on these gates (Rev 21:12)! The 12 foundations of the Temple in Heaven are 12 precious stones (Rev 21:19-20) which bear the names of the 12 apostles of Jesus (Rev 21:14)! The dimensions of the wall and city are respectively 12x12 cubits and 12,000x12,000x12,000 furlongs! Even the servants are grouped according to the number 12 -- 12+12 elders (Rev 4:4) and 12x12,000 servants from the 12 tribes of Israel! Finally, these immortals feed on the 12 fruits from the tree of life which bears fruits on a12-month cycle throughout eternity (Rev 22:2)!

Furthermore, the number 12 is expressed as 3x4 in both designs (see below) and not 12x1 or 2x6 or 2x2x3. Surely this too is by design.

12 Precious Stones of the Breastplate

12 Pearly Gates of the Temple in Heaven

(Note: The abundance of the number 12 in the Temple design is a conundrum which deserves an article all by itself. There is a very profound secret hidden in the number 12. Why is this number such an important number in the Temple design? It turns out the number 12 is one signature of the Almighty! The Hebrew gematria of Shaddai the Almighty is 314 and the number 12 can be expressed as 3x1x4! See my series on this fascinating subject at http://www.fivedoves.com/shaddai/pi_1.htm)

Thus, judging from material (stones), shape (oblong) and number (12), one can conclude beyond a shadow of doubt that the Designers of the High Priest's breastplate and the Temple in Heaven are one and the same Person -- God the Almighty!

That the breastplate and the Temple are intimately linked is without question. In fact, the hidden gematria of the breastplate is a perfect illustration of the Temple.

The diagram above shows that the breastplate hidden gematria is encoded exclusively in masonry symbols. Jesus is the Capstone, the Cornerstone, the Foundation Stone and the Repairer of the Breach. Truly, the Lord Jesus is the Temple (John 2:19-21). How much clearer can this be? The hidden gematria of the High Priest's breastplate points to the true eternal High Priest -- the Lord Jesus Christ. The Architect of the City of God and the Author of our salvation left us an intriguing clue in the breastplate so that we may know that He is the Master Builder of the House of God (Heb 11:10).

The phrase 'and understand that I am he' (Isa 43:10) also has a Hebrew gematria of 577, the same as that of 'the Repairer of the Breach' (Isa 58:12). It is as if Jesus wants us to know and understand that "before Him there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Him, and that He, even He, is the LORD and beside Him there is no saviour." (Isa 43:10-11)

The matter is sealed when one realizes each of these phrases has a Greek gematria of 577 too: 'God's love'(Agape Theou), 'God's will'(Thelema Theou) and 'Gospel'(Evangelion). (see http://www.biblewheel.com/GR/GR_577.asp)

The table below summarizes our search for the message hidden in the High Priest's breastplate:

Breastplate stones
Value
Gematria
755
Jesus Christ (Hebrew)
1480
Christ (Greek)
888
Jesus (Greek)
577
Repairer of the Breach(Hebrew)
God's Love (Greek)
God's Will (Greek)
Gospel (Greek)

The first three gematrias spell out the name Jesus Christ in Hebrew and Greek. The enigmatic fourth gematria describes the person and work of Jesus Christ. To the Jews, He is the Repairer of the Breach, the One who will restore the kingdom. To the Gentiles, He is God's love and the gospel.

CONCLUSION

I hope you appreciate the import of these supernatural numbers. Moses could not have encoded them. Jacob could not have fathered and named the 12 patriachs so that a message is engraved in the 12 stones of the breastplate. Yet, the startling message is unmistakable -- that JESUS IS THE CHRIST TO BOTH JEWS AND GENTILES! He is the One that fills the gap. He is the One that breaks down the dividing wall between Jews and Gentiles (Eph 2:14). He is Yeshua HaMashiach. He is Jesus Christ, the Repairer of the Breach.

It is clear the Almighty God foreordained the gematria of Aaron's breastplate. He designed and ordered the position, the number of the 12 patriarchs such that His undeniable signature may be detected by anyone who cares to scrutinize -- that JESUS IS THE CHRIST, the saviour of all mankind, Jews or Gentiles alike. The amazing gematria described above testifies beyond a shadow of doubt that the cornerstone that was rejected by the Jews is indeed their Messiah. It confirms that the Jewish Messiah is the Christian Saviour as written in the gospels of the New Testament. Jesus is God's Love and Goodnews. Ultimately, Jesus reconciles man to God, the very mission He came to earth for. The stones tell it all. The stones cry out and proclaim JESUS CHRIST -- THE SAVIOUR OF ALL MANKIND!

The two trees on either side of the sea of glass/river that blend into one at the top represents God and His Son. The 12 fruits on the tree of life that the 144,000 and wise virgins feast on, represent the gospel feast, the Bread of Life, the Word of God, the 12 characteristics of God and His Son:

Nine fruits are listed in Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." The Holy Ghost assuming the form of tongues of fire divided at the tips, and resting upon those assembled, was an emblem of the gift which was bestowed upon them of speaking with fluency several different languages, with which they had formerly been unacquainted; and the appearance of fire signified the fervent zeal with which they would labor, and the power which would attend their words." {7Red 5.2}

The next event is the Sunday Law and the close of your probation. There are no more warnings to look out for before you perfect your character in Jesus. At the Sunday Law, the Loud Cry goes forth with unmeasured power, and you will either give that cry or be lost. "Jesus is the source of power, the fountain of life. He brings us to His word, and from the tree of life presents to us leaves for the healing of sin-sick souls. He leads us to the throne of God, and puts into our mouth a prayer through which we are brought into close contact with Himself. In our behalf He set in operation the all-powerful agencies of heaven. At every step we touch His living power." Lift Him Up, p. 264.4

"His word will be to us as the leaves of the tree of life if we will believe in Christ as our personal Saviour. If we eat the bread that came down from heaven, we shall have a live connection with God. We shall bring eternity into our reckoning. We shall live as in the presence of the whole heavenly host. The angels are watching and guarding us." Lift Him Up, p. 109.6

"Open the Bible before the tempted, struggling one, and over and over again read to him the promises of God. These promises will be to him as the leaves of the tree of life. "They, though but a small remnant (144,000 Adventist leaders who live and give the 4 angels messages and proclaim the Sabbath "more fully".), finally triumph, and are seen on the "sea of glass mingled with fire," and on Mount Zion with the Lamb, singing the song of their experience, and their redemption "from among men," (not from the grave, for they will be alive at the coming of Christ and be changed,) which no others in all wide heaven "could learn." THE THIRD ANGEL'S MESSAGE. -- By James White. p. 6, Para. 3, [MESSAGE].

The Jewish elders had commended the centurion to Christ because of the favor he had shown to “our nation.” He is worthy, they said, for “he hath built us a synagogue.” But the centurion said of himself, “I am not worthy.” Yet he did not fear to ask help from Jesus. Not to his own goodness did he trust, but to the Saviour’s mercy. His only argument was his great need.

In the same way every human being can come to Christ. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.” Titus 3:5. Do you feel that because you are a sinner you cannot hope to receive blessing from God? Remember that Christ came into the world to save sinners. We have nothing to recommend us to God; the plea that we may urge now and ever is our utterly helpless condition, which makes His redeeming power a necessity. Renouncing all self-dependence, we may look to the cross of Calvary and say:

“In my hand no price I bring;
Simply to Thy cross I cling.”

“If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” Mark 9:23. It is faith that connects us with heaven and brings us strength for coping with the powers of darkness. In Christ, God has provided means for subduing every evil

“For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.... In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.” Psalms 86:5-7.

“If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.... Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.”

"The message of Christ’s righteousness (Character/Law) is to sound from one end of the earth to the other to prepare the way of the Lord. This is the glory of God, which closes the work of the third angel."  Testimonies for the Church Volume 6, p. 19.1

As the Passover Lamb, He removed the Levitical priesthood and instituted the Melchisedek priesthood.

WHO WAS THIS MAN MELCHISEDEC?

By Ellen White

At a council meeting at Avondale School, about the year 1893, there were present Elders Haskell, F.L.H. Baker, G.B. Starr, and their wives, and Sister E.G. White, also W.A. Colcord, who was the editor of the Australian Signs of the Times.

Elder Colcord requested the privilege of reading some articles regarding the personality of Melchisedec. We all listened as he read and were surprised that Sister White listened also, with seeming interest, as she was not accustomed to listening to any argumentative writings.

As Elder Colcord was reading, Sister White interrupted him, saying: “Elder Colcord, I would not publish these articles, if I were you.” “Why not?” He inquired. “Because they are not correct.” She answered.

He then asked, “Who then was Melchisedec?”

She replied, “I will tell you who Melchisedec was. He was the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, who took the form of humanity and represented the Lord Jesus Christ to that generation."

[The words "to that generation" constitute a most important qualification to the above statement, in light of other definition of the Holy Spirit by Ellen White. Third person only expression used by Ellen White cannot mean third person numerically but grammatically. Because Jesus referred to himself in the third person many times. He would refer to himself as the Son of man. If it were to be understood numerically, why does Ellen White never refer to God as the first person and Jesus as the second person.]

That ended the council on that subject. Elder Colcord offered no argument to refute her position, and we all seemed perfectly satisfied with the statement; in fact, I had never heard an explanation that was satisfactory before.

After the meeting, Elder S.N. Haskell said to me, “Elder Starr, when the Spirit of Prophecy speaks so plainly as that about a matter, it can be proved by the Bible, so let’s look it up.”

We found that description of Melchisedec in Hebrews 7:3 was fully met by the Holy Spirit. “Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a high priest continually.“

We found that in Hebrews 9:14 that statement, “The Eternal Spirit.” That would meet, also, “Without beginning of days, nor end of life.”

Then in Romans 8:26, “likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (By man). Thus – These statements make the Holy Spirit a high priest forever. Every specification was met by the Holy Spirit, A HIGH PRIEST FOREVER, but cannot be met by any angel or human being.

Elder Haskell published this matter as reported above in his paper at South Lancaster, Mass. Thus we have TWO witnesses of the truthfulness of Sister White’s statement regarding (the person) Melchisedec.

Signed – G.B. Starr

First of all, the letter was signed by G.B. Starr in 1924, nine years after the death of Sister White and was only a report of what she said. Concerning such reports, Sister White tells us:

And now to all who have a desire for truth I would say: Do not give credence to unauthenticated reports as to what Sister White has done or said or written. If you desire to know what the Lord has revealed through her, read her published works. Are there any points of interest concerning which she has not written, do not eagerly catch up and report rumors as to what she has said.{5T 696.1}

A search of Sister White's published writings reveals that she never identifies Melchisedec as the Holy Spirit. She writes concerning him:

It was Christ that spoke through Melchisedec, the priest of the most high God. Melchisedec was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. And all through the generations of the past, Christ has spoken; Christ has led his people, and has been the light of the world. When God chose Abraham as a representative of his truth, he took him out of his country, and away from his kindred, and set him apart...{RH, February 18, 1890 par. 10}
“It was Christ who spoke through Melchizedek, the priest of the most high God. Melchizedek was NOT Christ, but he was the VOICE of God in the world, the REPRESENTATIVE of the Father [MELCHIZEDEK WAS THE HOLY SPIRIT].” – Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 409.

Ellen White makes very clear that Melchizedek was a holy man

"Many persons will meet all inferior demands and dues, and leave to God only the last gleanings, if there be any. If not, his cause must wait till a more convenient season. Such was not the course pursued by Abraham. Upon his return from a successful military expedition, he was met by Melchizedek, "king of Salem, and priest of the most high God." This holy man blessed Abraham, in the name of the Lord, and the patriarch gave him tithes of all the spoils as a tribute of gratitude to the Ruler of nations." {RH, May 16, 1882 par. 24}

I would trust this over a report of documented heresay.

“As by faith we look to Jesus, our faith pierces the shadow, and we adore God for His wondrous love in giving Jesus the Comforter.”  19MR 297

If you never felt sadness, How would you know that I am a Comforter?

What's in the MIND of GOD? Think about this: The "Holy" Spirit is the MIND of GOD coming to us thru Jesus Christ. We should be of ONE MIND to glorify GOD. GOD is a Spirit, we worship Him in SPIRIT (MIND) and in TRUTH. TRUTH is HIS LAW the perpetual Royal "Holy" TEN COMMANDMENTS written by the FINGER/SPIRIT/MIND of GOD:

A summary of the bible revelation of Melchisedec:
•He was a High Priest of God
•He was without decent
•Without Father & Mother
•Having neither beginning of days or end of life
•made like the Son of God abideth a priest forever
•He was greater than Abraham
•His priesthood was everlasting
My friends these are plain scriptures let’s not explain them away with assumptions and conjecture. I do not think you can use the argument that because the Bible had no record of this man that is why it is stated that he is without Father and Mother! Otherwise why would the bible add that he had no beginning or no end of life?
It is also worthy of note that SN Haskell in his magazine(official SDA publication)Bible Training School – in the 1903 edition, states that Melchisedec was the Spirit of God! Now consider that this was well in the lifetime of the prophet and I have no doubt in my mind that Elder Haskell would have been corrected by Mrs White if she felt that this was out of line. After all this is what she did to Baker when he claimed that Melchisedec was the angel Gabriel. Remember that Elder Haskell was present at the meeting where Baker was corrected by the prophet. Not only did SN Haskell publish that Melchisedec was the Holy Spirit in 1903 in the Official publication Bible Training School but continued to do so up until sister Whites death – see 1914 edition. The other point is this must have been the general consensus of the majority of the brethren in this time as there are no published opposition to this position.

1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Note: How simple and straight forward is this Bible passage. One God who is the source of all and one Lord through whom it all comes that we imitate, copy and become like. As E.J Waggoner states "All things proceed ultimately from God, the Father; even Christ Himself proceeded and came forth from the Father, but it has pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell, and that He should be the direct, immediate Agent in every act of creation. " Christ and His Righteousness Page 19

From this paragraph we can see that Melchisedec was:

(1) Not God the Father ?
(2) Not Christ
(3) Was a priest of the most high God. The Holy Spirit is never positively identified as a priest of the most high God in the Bible, pioneers, or Spirit of Prophecy. Think also of this: The Holy Spirit is the very presence and life of the father, how could His Spirit be a priest unto Himself??
(4) Although not in the above SOP paragraph, Abraham paid tithes to the Holy Spirit?
(5) Christ spoke through Melchisedec. How? - by His Holy Spirit! Thus, the person of Melchisedec had to be someone other than the Holy Spirit.
(6) Melchisedec is identified with God's people and Abraham suggesting that he was a human being.

Furthermore, we have a full Biblical exposition of the personage of Melchisedec from J.N. Andrews. Please consider the following of how and who Elder Andrews identified Melchisedec to be:

"Our knowledge of this remarkable personage is derived only from Genesis 14, Psalm 110, and what Paul has written concerning him in the book of Hebrews. Many things respecting him are purposely concealed by the Holy Spirit, and it would, therefore, be fruitless for us to attempt to bring them to the light. He was king of Salem; he was priest of the most high God; he was, by virtue of his office, even the superior of Abraham; Christ is a priest after his order. He once met Abraham and received tithes of him, and blessed him. This is the substance of our knowledge of Melchisedec. When it is asked whether he was not identical with this or that remarkable man of his time, or when it is inquired of what race he was, and who were his parents, and how long he lived, and when he died, the answer must be, that we are not informed touching these things. But the following language of Paul has given rise to many strange speculations concerning him. Paul says of him that he was “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.” ( Hebrews 7:8 )

Now, if these words be taken in an absolute sense, they can be true of no human being. Adam alone, of all the human race, was without father, and without mother, and without descent. But Adam had beginning of days and end of life. Enoch had no end of life, but he had all the other things which Paul says Melchisedec had not. So of Elijah, who, by the way, did not exist till long after the days of Melchisedec. Every member of the human family, except Adam, has had parents, and every one has had beginning of days; and indeed, with two exceptions, everyone has had end of life. Even the angels of God have all had beginning of days, so that they would be as much excluded by this language as the members of the human family. And as to the Son of God, he would be excluded also, for he had God for his Father, and did, at some point in the eternity of the past, have beginning of days. So that if we use Paul’s language in an absolute sense, it would be impossible to find but one being in the universe, and that is God the Father, who is without father, or mother, or descent, or beginning of days, or end of life. Yet probably no one for a moment contends that Melchisedec was God the Father.

1. He is called the priest of the most high God. Hebrews 7:1. It is the business of the priest to make offerings to God. He surely did not make offerings to himself.
2. He is called by Paul a man, though greater than Abraham.
3. Paul speaks of him in Hebrews 7:6 as really having descent, though he does not know what it was.
4. Melchisedec in Genesis 14:20 blesses the most high God, a plain evidence that it was not himself he thus blessed. Melchisedec is said to be made like unto the Son of God. But this shows that he is not God the Father; for he is not made like his Son, nor indeed does he have existence derived from another. But the Son is said to be the express image of his Father. Hebrews 1:3.

What then do the words of Paul in Hebrews 7:8 really signify? We have seen that they cannot be taken in an absolute sense; for they involve us in contradictions and absurdity. But if they are taken in a limited sense, and interpreted according to the manner of speaking that was usual with the Hebrews, we shall find them easy of explanation. The Hebrews kept very exact genealogical registers. Particularly was this the case respecting their priests; for if the priest could not trace his genealogy back to Aaron, he was not allowed to serve in the priesthood. Those who could not show their record in such tables were said to be without father and mother, and without descent. This did not signify that they had no ancestors, but that the record of them was not preserved.This is exactly the case of Melchisedec. He is introduced in Genesis without record of his parentage, the Holy Spirit having purposely omitted that matter. He is said by Paul to have no beginning of days, nor end of life. This does not mean absolutely that there was no beginning of existence with him, for it is only true of one being in the universe, viz., God the Father. But the evident meaning of the apostle is this: that no record of his birth or of his death appears in the history which is given us of him. He appears without any intimation given us of his origin; and the story of this priest of the Most High ends without any record of his death. These things were purposely omitted that he might be used to represent, as perfectly as possible, the priesthood of the Son of God. And so the same Spirit of inspiration that led Moses to withhold these particulars concerning Melchisedec, did also lead Paul to use that omission to illustrate the priesthood of Christ. We would do well to leave the case of Melchisedec just where the Scriptures leave it." (J. N. Andrews, September 7, 1869, RH, also found in the January 4, 1881 edition of RH)

If we apply Miller's literal rule and go no further than to read in the literal sense then we must follow the line of reasoning that Kelvin has suggested. The conundrum this creates is dealing with a manifestation of the Spirit of God in a human form as a being in its own right is manifold. This is the line that Kelvin has suggested as he states:

God was walking on the grounds of Avondale(1), in tongues of fire(Acts 2:3), in the wind( John 3:8 ), as breath from the Saviour(John 20:22), as a dove at Christ’s baptism(Luke 3:22). This shows that the Holy Spirit can take any form that Jehovah chooses.

While this is possible, the danger of this is that the Holy Spirit is seen as functioning as a being in its own right. It is not a robot under the control of the Father, it is a being in its own right and this is often shown as the highest evidence that the Holy Spirit is a person. At this point do we go forward to other pieces of evidence to decide the case such as a human testimony of what Ellen White said or do we go back to Miller's rules to see if a spiritual application of Paul's words would be more in harmony with the natural order of things?

A faithful application of Miller's rules would invite us to come back to Scripture. As Uriah Smith expressed it
All Scripture language is to be taken literally, unless there exists some good reason for supposing it to be figurative; and all that is figurative is to be interpreted by that which is literal. Uriah Smith. Thoughts on Daniel and Revelation (Review and Herald, 1897) Page 123

This being the case I would concur with Russell in applying this rule when he says:

What then do the words of Paul in Hebrews 7:8 really signify? We have seen that they cannot be taken in an absolute sense; for they involve us in contradictions and absurdity. But if they are taken in a limited sense, and interpreted according to the manner of speaking that was usual with the Hebrews, we shall find them easy of explanation

The point that is highlighted for me is what is our final court of appeal? The Bible and the Bible alone must be the final point of conclusion. Even the published writings of EGW are not the FINAL point to form the conclusion for this would make the Spirit of prophecy the final Word and violates her counsel to go to the BIble to form our doctrine. We study her writings to expand our minds to a point that we can go back to Scripture and see in it and it alone a harmony of doctrinal evidence.

As for stenographic sermons of EGW that she never published and third party statements of what she said, I give them no credence in my formulation of doctrine even though I might find them historically significant and of interest personally. They are not part of my understanding of a faithful application of Miller's Rules. Having said this I might add that I have not previously been faithful to this rule and in recent years have found several places where I have violated these rules - The subject of the daily is a classic case and even in the subject of the King of the North I am beginning to see shaky foundations in my previously held convictions. I am determined to cut them down and burn them out as we march back towards the solid platform given us by our forefathers.

Just a few more thoughts:

•I suggest that we look at the document by Elder GB Starr in the light that he was a close associate of EG White, he was present at the meeting where Baker was expounding the theory that Gabriel was the Holy Spirit, which makes him a firsthand witness, and one of high regard definitely a worthy witness. Let’s put ourselves in this position I do not feel that you would forget a meeting of this nature.

•The Spirit of Prophecy is clear that Jesus is the representative of the Father, she also states that Melchisedec is the representative of the Father. Sister White also states that Melchizedec represented the Lord Jesus Christ in Person. Mrs White also states that the Holy Spirit is Christs Representative – see quotes below

In the divine plan of education as adapted to man's condition after the fall, Christ stands as the representative of the Father, the connecting link between God and man; He is the great teacher of mankind. And He ordained that men and women should be His representatives. The family was the school, and the parents were the teachers. {AH 181.2}

It was Christ that spoke through Melchizedek, the priest of the most high God. Melchizedek was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. And all through the generations of the past, Christ has spoken; Christ has led His people, and has been the light of the world. When God chose Abraham as a representative of His truth, He took him out of his country, and away from his kindred, and set him apart. He desired to mold him after His own model. He desired to teach him according to His own plan. ....{1SM 409.3}

At one time Melchizedek represented the Lord Jesus Christ in person, to reveal the truth of heaven, and perpetuate the law of God (Letter 190, 1905). {1BC 1092.8}

"The Holy Spirit, Christ's representative on earth, is set forth and exalted as the heavenly teacher and guide sent to this world by our Lord at His ascension, to make real in the hearts and lives of men all that He had made possible by His death on the cross. The gifts of this divine Spirit, as enumerated in the Gospels and Epistles of the New Testament, are acknowledged, prayed for, and received as fully as the Spirit sees fit to impart them. {LS 472.3}

The Holy Spirit is greatly needed in our schools. This divine agency comes to the world as Christ's representative. He is not only the faithful and true witness to the Word of God, but he is the searcher of the thoughts and purposes of the heart. He is the source to which we must look for efficiency in the restoration of the moral image of God in man. ....{RH, October 8, 1908 par. 6}

The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. .....The Desire of Ages, p. 669.

"These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." ....{ST, November 16, 1891 par. 10}

Keeping these above quotes in mind we need to be careful we don’t inadvertently overlook the points here. Remember that Christ and the Holy Spirit(Comforter) are virtually synonymous in the New Testament. It is not difficult for me to see that in the Old Testament that Melchizedec was a Type or Representative of Jesus and that Melchizedec was the Spirit of God just as the Comforter or Intercessor in the in the New Testament. Melchizedec was a High Priest, only a High Priest can make Intercession on behalf of Gods people during the Day of Atonement. This is what the Holy Spirit in the form of Christ’s representative does on our behalf. The Bible mentions that there is only one intercessor or mediator between God and Man and that is Jesus, the Holy Spirit is also mentions as a intercessor so we can safely conclude that this is Christs representative the Holy Spirit or the Comforter.

Abraham does not worship him(just as the Holy Spirit is not to be worshiped) which is consistently done in previous appearances of the angel of the Lord. What we do find is this priest offering bread and wine, giving a type of communion service which predates the Passover commemoration. What is significant of this meeting is that when one man blesses another it shows superiority in position, the greater blesses the lesser.
Final Thoughts
I think it is clear that Melchisedec typified Christ and Christs ministry in the Sanctuary in Heaven, and this ministry is after the order of Melchisedec. This ministry was an everlasting or unceasing ministry. The Holy Spirit it seems was given this work as intercessor through Melchisedec because he would never cease. God needed an intercessor on behalf of man that would be continuous after the order of Melchisedec. Christ could take on this role only after his resurrection, for if he had of taken it on from eternity the intercession would have ceased in AD 31. Melchisedec by the Spirit of God could continue his intercession on mankind’s behalf forever. Since Christs resurrection the Holy Spirit Christs representative who intercedes on behalf of the Son of God, and who once the Spirit through Melchisedec typified. Keep in mind that Melchisedec was made like unto the Son of God, this seems to suggest he played a role in the intercession on behalf of man.

My Saviour is Michael Christ Jesus, Literal Son of The Almighty God. He died the second death in my place and in so doing He made me a son, by adoption, to my Heavenly Father, and I am assured that I am accepted in the beloved, and as long as I keep my hand in His nail pierced hand and walk, though it be a winding road hitherto for me, the narrow way, I will live with My Heavenly Father and His Son, my Saviour, FOREVER!

Verne Bates reprints the original "published" writings of Ellen White as most are out of print and no longer available through the SDA church. To him all others of her writings are suspect, especially the compilations like Acts of the Apostles, Desire of Ages, Evangelism, etc.

Brother Bates teaches that Melchizedek is the Holy Spirit. Even though he preaches against using the unpublished writings of Sister White he "quotes" from the 1893 Avondale meeting transcript posted here and uses it as his Spirit of Prophecy proof.

In the letter we see how Elder Haskel records what he claims Sister White said during that meeting, “I will tell you who Melchizedek was. He was the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, who took the form of humanity and represented the Lord Jesus Christ to that generation.“

Of course we have no confirmation or even hint of that statement in any of her writings. According to Brother Bates, that's okay. Jumping off from there he teaches that early Adventists were trinitarian, which was a 3 gods in one belief. Sister White corrected that error when she stated there were "three living persons in the heavenly trio."

Verne Bates teaches that in the heavenly trio there is God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit-the priesthood of the godhead. Anytime the word "it" is used in the Bible the Holy Spirit is identified because according to the dictionary, "it" is the personal pronoun of the third person as in Matt 24:33 and Genesis 3:15. Tie the Genesis verse in with Romans 16:20 and the Holy Spirit becomes the God of Peace.

Brother Bates also teaches that since the fall of Adam and Eve the godhead has always had a human representation here on earth. So he concludes that with the statement of Ellen White it is not unreasonable to conclude that the Holy Spirit appeared to Abraham as the King of Salem, who is also identified as the King of Peace. Factoring in Hebrews 7:3, the Holy Spirit remained on earth until the birth of Christ.

It seems to me that the White Estate assistant director which Brother Frank kindly listed on his blog response has used a lot of assumptions to establish their view. Particuarily disturbing to me is their comments on SN Haskel. Adrian whether the mysterious figure of Melchisadec was the Holy Spirit or not makes no impact on the support of a trinity or not. If it were the case as you allude to that it supports the idea that the Holy Spirit was a person then I feel sure there would be more weight put on this testomony of GB Starr by those who would promote this veiw.The White Estate receives inquiries from time to time on this subject and here is a letter written by the Associate Director of the Estate.

"Dear Brother Barron,

Thank you for calling this afternoon. You were asking about Stephen Haskell’s position on the identity of Melchizedek. As I mentioned to you on the phone, I am sending you a larger set of materials on this subject. From time to time we get questions about this, and I’ll share with you what I wrote to pastor last year who inquired about it:

You asked about G. B. Starr’s account of Mrs. White’s supposed identification of Melchizedek as the Holy Spirit. I am attaching three documents from our files. The first is the statement of Elder Starr, showing that it was articles by Elder Colcord that raised the question in the first place. Elder Starr then outlined his recollection of what Mrs. White had said.

The second item contains Elder Colcord’s statement, which flatly denies that Mrs. White had identified Melchizedek at all, though he believed she had said he was a “representative” of the Holy Spirit. Colcord then went into what I would call a “flight of fancy” on the question, putting great weight on “The Book of Jasher.” Unfortunately, though there is indeed a Book of Jasher named in the Bible, we don’t have that one. All we have is a much later book whose unknown author gave it that name in order to try to gain credibility for it. I would give no weight to arguments based on this book. The rest of this item is a statement by D. E. Robinson, who served as one of Mrs. White’s secretaries, married her granddaughter Ella, and later worked with the Ellen G. White Estate. Robinson cites a couple of statements in print from Mrs. White about Melchizedek that help to establish her view that Melchizedek was a representative of the Father. It strikes me that this does not require him to be someone supernatural. Rather, he was someone whom God used. Abraham gave him tithes because as a priest he did represent God.

The third item is three articles by S. N. Haskell, who is sometimes quoted as supporting the idea of identifying Melchizedek with the Holy Spirit. Elder Haskell printed these short articles about Melchizedek in the "Bible Training School" paper that he published in South Lancaster, Massachusetts. The attachment gives you all three. In the first two he asserted that Melchizedek was the Holy Spirit. In the third article he did not make this assertion, but observed that the Bible says Melchizedek was a man. Actually, he had listed this characteristic in his first article, but then he seemed to ignore it in his conclusion. So it looks like Haskell may have moved away from his earlier position about Melchizedek’s being the Holy Spirit.

In the context of Hebrews, I think the most sensible way to understand Melchizedek is that he was a man, not a divine being. He was the king of the city of Salem (Jerusalem), and he was a priest of the Most High God. As such a priest, he represented God the Father and was a means for Him to communicate with others. In the Book of Hebrews, the references to his being without father or mother, genealogy, beginning, or end, refer (I believe) to the fact that Scripture does not record this information about him. I don’t think it means that he actually did not have any of these. The point about Melchizedek in Hebrews is that he was not a Levitical priest, since Levi had not even been born yet. Even so, Abraham, the father of the chosen people, honored and respected his priesthood, and because he did so, Melchizedek may be thought of as a greater priest than Abraham or any that would come from him. By comparison, Jesus also is not a Levitical priest, yet He is higher than them all. This, I believe, is what Hebrews is saying regarding Melchizedek, as found in Hebrews 7:15-17. I don’t think it means that he was a supernatural being, like Jesus is.

Associate Director
Ellen G. White Estate

I want Scripture to be our final authority and will share more when I have an opportunity to study this interesting topic.

It seems to me that the White Estate assistant director  has used a lot of assumptions to establish their view. Particuarily disturbing to me is their comments on SN Haskel. Whether the mysterious figure of Melchisadec was the Holy Spirit or not makes no impact on the support of a trinity or not. If it were the case as you allude to that it supports the idea that the Holy Spirit was a person then I feel sure there would be more weight put on this testomony of GB Starr by those who would promote this veiw.

We are all aware that it was the Spirit of Jesus that was in the hearts of the patriarchs. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob etc were moved upon by the Spirit of God and it was Christ in them. These men maintained an individual identity even though they were dead to self and the Spirit of God or more directly the Holy Spirit directed them.

What you will first discover is who did not come in the form of humanity.

"Greater works than these shall ye do because I go to My Father." He would intercede for them, and would send them His own representative, the Holy Spirit, who would attend them in their work. This representative would not appear in human form, but by faith would be seen and recognized by all who should believe in Christ."{RH, October 26, 1897 par. 3}

I believe this is why:

…Christ tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, "the Spirit of truth, which the Father shall send in My name." "I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" [John 14:16, 17]. This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter. Again Jesus says, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth" [John 16:12, 13].{14MR 179.2}

The influence of the Holy Spirit is the life of Christ in the soul. We do not see Christ and speak to Him, but His Holy Spirit is just as near us in one place as in another. He works in and through every one who receives Christ. Those who know the indwelling of the Spirit reveal the fruits of the Spirit--love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,-- Ms. 41, 1897, pp. 7-11. ("Words of Comfort").

A few statements about Christ coming in human form:

After the Fall Christ became Adam's instructor. He acted in God's stead toward humanity, saving the race from immediate death. He took upon Him the office of mediator. Adam and Eve were given a probation in which to return to their allegiance, and in this plan all their posterity were embraced.{9MR 237.1}

In the fullness of time Christ was to be revealed in human form. He was to assume the position of head of humanity by taking the nature, but not the sinfulness of man.--Letter 91, 1900, p. 6. (To "Dear Brethren," June 26, 1900.){9MR 237.2}

God saw that the world was destitute of true knowledge, and he sent Christ into the world to live the law, and thus represent him. "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us . . . full of grace and truth." The Truth, the Life, and the Light of the world, was to find a place in the hearts of men. For this Christ clothed his divinity with humanity. This was the only means by which he could reach humanity. Christ became one with the human family. He spoke in the language of men. He ate with them at their tables. He bore with them their trials and poverty, and shared their toils. Thus he assured them of his complete identification with humanity. {YI, March 19, 1903 par. 2}

Jesus was the light of His people--the Light of the world--before He came to earth in the form of humanity. The first gleam of light that pierced the gloom in which sin had wrapped the world, came from Christ. And from Him has come every ray of heaven's brightness that has fallen upon the inhabitants of the earth. In the plan of redemption Christ is the Alpha and the Omega--the First and the Last.{PP 367.3}

…The incarnation of Christ, his divinity, his atonement, his wonderful life in heaven as our advocate, the office of the Holy Spirit,--all these living, vital themes of Christianity are revealed from Genesis to Revelation… "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood [that is, continues to receive the words of Christ, and practise them], hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed; and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him." "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."{SpTEd 235.1}

We know evil angels also come in the form of men.

Thus men came to Christ. And mingling with his hearers were angels in the form of men, making their suggestions, criticizing, misapplying, and misinterpreting the Saviour's words. Christ presented the truth in the form of parables. This was the only way in which he could rebuke sin without causing personal offense. {RH, August 11, 1903 par. 11}

Entertaining heaven’s angels:

Christ and His angels come to us in the form of human beings, and as we converse with them, light and grace and joy fill our hearts. Our spiritual energies are quickened, and we are strengthened to do the will of God. Though we know it not, we are conversing with an angel, an angel in human guise.--Letter 144, 1902, p. 8. (To Dr. and Mrs. D. H. Kress, September 18, 1902.)

God conferred great honor upon Abraham. Angels of heaven walked and talked with him as friend with friend. When judgments were about to be visited upon Sodom, the fact was not hidden from him, and he became an intercessor with God for sinners. His interview with the angels presents also a beautiful example of hospitality.{CC 50.2}

In the records of Genesis we see the patriarch at the hot summer noontide resting in his tent door under the shadow of the oaks of Mamre. Three travelers are passing near. They make no appeal for hospitality, solicit no favor; but Abraham does not permit them to go on their way unrefreshed… This kindness he showed them simply as wayfarers, passing strangers, who might never come his way again. But, the entertainment over, his guests stood revealed. He had ministered not only to heavenly angels, but to their glorious Commander, his Creator, Redeemer, and King. And to Abraham the counsels of heaven were opened, and he was called "the friend of God." . . .{CC 50.3}

The privilege granted Abraham and Lot is not denied to us. By showing hospitality to God's children we, too, may receive His angels into our dwellings. Even in our day angels in human form enter the homes of men and are entertained by them. And Christians who live in the light of God's countenance are always accompanied by unseen angels, and these holy beings leave behind them a blessing in our homes.{AH 445.3}

William Miller was blessed by an angel in human form.

The instigator of all evil sought not only to counteract the effect of the Advent message, but to destroy the messenger himself. [William] Miller made a practical application of Scripture truth to the hearts of his hearers, reproving their sins, and disturbing their self-satisfaction, and his plain and cutting words aroused their enmity. The opposition manifested by church-members toward his message, emboldened the baser classes to go to greater lengths; and enemies plotted to take his life as he should leave the place of meeting. But holy angels were in the throng, and one of these, in the form of a man, took the arm of this servant of the Lord, and led him in safety from the angry mob. His work was not yet done, and Satan and his emissaries were disappointed in their purpose.{GC88 336.3}

A beautiful quote to finish with:

…Our Redeemer came in the flesh to condemn sin in the flesh, to lay hold of the repenting soul with an unyielding grasp, and at the same time to grasp the throne of God, becoming the connecting link between humanity and divinity, between earth and heaven. He is the only refuge for the guilty soul. In searching to know God, man is directed to Christ, who lived out the law of God, and manifested to the world the attributes of the Father. In the Son of God the inexpressible goodness of God is revealed; for in Him mercy and truth meet together, righteousness and peace kiss each other. "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ in the flesh, condemning sin in the flesh, was a perfect revelation of God to the world. Christ declared: "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."{ST, July 3, 1907 par. 3}

I think we need to be careful not to interpret what is revealed in the scriptures so as to align with our own thoughts or bias, this is not being honest with the text, lets read the bible for what it says.

Let’s continue to study and go by the rules of objective biblical interpretation rather than subjective reading.

“…A morning talk, given at Battle Creek by Mrs. E.G. White, Jan. 20, 1890, printed in the R & H of 2-18-1890, contains the following statement: ‘It was Christ that spoke through Melchisedec, the priest of the Most High God. Melchisedec was not Christ, but the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father.‘ John 14:17,26
and 16:13-15, tell us who represents the Father in the earth. At the baptism of Christ
the Holy Spirit appeared as a dove; on the day of Pentecost, as Cloven tongues of fire. It is not unreasonable (therefore) to conclude that the SAME SPIRIT could
appear to Abraham in the person of the King of Salem. (“Priest of the most High
God.”)

  • "God has never left Himself without witness on the earth. At one time Melchisedek represented the Lord Jesus Christ in person, to reveal the truth of heaven, and perpetuate the law of God (Letter 190, 1905).
  • It was Christ that spoke through Melchisedek, the priest of the most high God. Melchisedek was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. -(Review & Herald Feb. 18, 1890). {Bible Commentary Vol. 1 page 1093.1}
  • "The high priest was designed in an especial manner to represent Christ, who was to become a high priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. This order of priesthood was not to pass to another, or be superseded by another (Redemption: The First Advent of Christ, p. 14). {Bible Commentary Vol.7 page 930.12}

Unlocking the mystery of Melchisedec - Hebrews 7:1-3

AbrahamAtAltar

1 “For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.”

Many people may argue that this is referring to Christ – however this would seem impossible on the grounds that the text states that He (Melchisedec) is “without father”.  The text also states “but made like unto the Son of God” – it is important to point out that like unto the Son of God is different to The Son of God.  Some of these revelations will not be clear to human thinking until we are in the kingdom of heaven.  What is revealed is that these verses in Hebrews regarding Melchisedec do not support the theory of a Trinitarian God.

From the below document we can see from Elder George B Starr’s testimony that Sister White asked Elder Baker not to publish his papers in regards to Melchisedec being Gabriel, but rather stated clearly that Melchisedec is the “Holy Spirit” in the form of a human being or High Priest which is in harmony with the rest of Scripture. For the Holy Spirit has taken many forms including a person, when God was walking on the grounds of Avondale(1), in tongues of fire(Acts 2:3), in the wind(John 3:8), as breath from the Saviour(John 20:22), as a dove at Christ’s baptism(Luke 3:22). This shows that the Holy Spirit can take any form that Jehovah chooses. The Bible suggests that the Holy Spirit or “Spirit of God” is synonymous with God’s Presence (Psalms 139:7) therefore we can safely conclude that the Spirit of God at least some degree using our inadequate theological language, His attributes and characteristics and personality shed abroad through His Omnipresent power.

Melchisedec could only be the Holy Spirit when you think of the criteria set forth – no father rules out Christ – being in the presence of Abraham rules out that it could be God(Father) because of John 1:18,(God has not been seen by man) – but the criteria fits the Holy Spirit in that the Spirit of God “Without father - without mother - having neither beginning of days, nor end of life” and “abideth a priest continually” keep in mind that the Holy Spirit is our intercessor! (Romans 8:26)

Hello Brother Kelvin:

Thank you for posting this article. Very interesting, but I would disagree with the conclusion reached in it: that Melchisedec was the Holy Spirit.

First of all, the letter was signed by G.B. Starr in 1924, nine years after the death of Sister White and was only a report of what she said. Concerning such reports, Sister White tells us:

And now to all who have a desire for truth I would say: Do not give credence to unauthenticated reports as to what Sister White has done or said or written. If you desire to know what the Lord has revealed through her, read her published works. Are there any points of interest concerning which she has not written, do not eagerly catch up and report rumors as to what she has said.{5T 696.1}

A search of Sister White's published writings reveals that she never identifies Melchisedec as the Holy Spirit. She writes concerning him:

It was Christ that spoke through Melchisedec, the priest of the most high God. Melchisedec was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. And all through the generations of the past, Christ has spoken; Christ has led his people, and has been the light of the world. When God chose Abraham as a representative of his truth, he took him out of his country, and away from his kindred, and set him apart...{RH, February 18, 1890 par. 10}

From this paragraph we can see that Melchisedec was:

(1) Not God the Father

God bless you Brother Kelvin according to John 17:3,

Russell.

My brothers Kelvin and Russell. This post has been a real blessing to me for several reasons but the most important one is that it has caused me to carefully assess my method of interpretation and process that I use and what I allow to be the deciding factors in forming a conclusion.

The complexity of this case is, as Russell indicates, found in the words of Paul.

Thank you for your lengthy response Russell – my blog was intended to stimulate thought not solve all the mystery, as I stated in the article we will not understand all these things until we are in the kingdom.

In the divine plan of education as adapted to man's condition after the fall, Christ stands as the representative of the Father, the connecting link between God and man; He is the great teacher of mankind. And He ordained that men and women should be His representatives. The family was the school, and the parents were the teachers. {AH 181.2}

It was Christ that spoke through Melchizedek, the priest of the most high God. Melchizedek was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. And all through the generations of the past, Christ has spoken; Christ has led His people, and has been the light of the world. When God chose Abraham as a representative of His truth, He took him out of his country, and away from his kindred, and set him apart. He desired to mold him after His own model. He desired to teach him according to His own plan. ....{1SM 409.3}

At one time Melchizedek represented the Lord Jesus Christ in person, to reveal the truth of heaven, and perpetuate the law of God (Letter 190, 1905). {1BC 1092.8}

"The Holy Spirit, Christ's representative on earth, is set forth and exalted as the heavenly teacher and guide sent to this world by our Lord at His ascension, to make real in the hearts and lives of men all that He had made possible by His death on the cross. The gifts of this divine Spirit, as enumerated in the Gospels and Epistles of the New Testament, are acknowledged, prayed for, and received as fully as the Spirit sees fit to impart them. {LS 472.3}

The Holy Spirit is greatly needed in our schools. This divine agency comes to the world as Christ's representative. He is not only the faithful and true witness to the Word of God, but he is the searcher of the thoughts and purposes of the heart. He is the source to which we must look for efficiency in the restoration of the moral image of God in man. ....{RH, October 8, 1908 par. 6}

The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. .....The Desire of Ages, p. 669.

"These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." ....{ST, November 16, 1891 par. 10}

Well stated all brethren and extremely interesting! I congratulate you on the "tone" of your discussions! The blog and all comments have blessed me in various ways, because just two weeks ago I was discussing, and in a way, studying this very topic with my wife Harmina, and I came to the same conclusion as brother Kelvin!

However, I must ask the question, does knowing, or thinking to know just Who or What Melchisedec really is, have a bearing on our salvation? My Saviour is Michael Christ Jesus, Literal Son of The Almighty God. He died the second death in my place and in so doing He made me a son, by adoption, to my Heavenly Father, and I am assured that I am accepted in the beloved, and as long as I keep my hand in His nail pierced hand and walk,though it be a winding road hitherto for me, the narrow way, I will live with My Heavenly Father and His Son, my Saviour, FOREVER! All that without really knowing the mystery of Melchisedec! What more could a man of my background ask for??

Blessings to all!! smilies/smiley.gifsmilies/smiley.gifsmilies/smiley.gif

Brother Kelvin thank you for facilitating thought and discussion. I also appreciate the respectful dialogue. For me Melchizedek has always been a fascinating individual from Scripture. Am a wee bit confused by this idea that he could be the Holy Spirit in human form and what that means for us in all practicality. I had reservations to the notion the first time I heard this theory two years ago from a man in the states named Verne Bates who has a large following. Let me share some of the teachings of Verne Bates. So that there is no misunderstanding, I did want to make it clear that what he teaches on this subject are not my personal beliefs.

Brother Bates also tells us that as the high priest of heaven, the Holy Spirit, had to induct Christ as High priest after His ascension.

There's more to this teaching, but just wanted to give the highlights.

In doing some personal research I found this official statement from the Ellen White Estate:

Identity of Melchizedek. Mrs. White reportedly identified Melchizedek as the Holy Spirit, according to the memory of one man. There is no support in her writings for this teaching, and the memory statement is offset by denials of others who were present when Ellen G. White is supposed to have made this statement. She did not identify Melchizedek. See Ellen G. White statement in the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 1, p. 1093, in which she says Melchizedek was not Christ.

The White Estate receives inquiries from time to time on this subject and here is a letter written by the Associate Director of the Estate.

Brethren, as I stated before - Let us be very clear in our method of drawing conclusions. If we are going to allow the Bible to be its own interpreter and allow the Spirit of prophecy to expand our minds to come back to Scripture in a way that helps line up texts then statements by third parties cannot enter this process. As we see above the letter in question is clearly disputed and the White Estate does not accept it.

When we engage in an identification process with reference to the Spirit of Christ, we are often going to find expression challenging when Paul switches between Spirit, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of God, Christ and so on. When Luke says in Acts "The Holy SPirit said..." We understand that Christ is speaking through the agency of His Omnipresent Spirit. It is not Christ because Christ is in heaven, yet it is Christ because it is His words, character and presence that comfort us. This complexity can cause much confusion when seeking identification of the Holy Spirit.

Is this any different to the man Melchisedec who was a priest and king of a town called Salem Heb 7:1 There is no doubt the Spirit of Jesus filled His life and he was moved by the Spirit of God, but the identity of Melchisedec as a man must be retained because only one who is a man can be a priest on behalf of men otherwise Jesus need not have become a man in order to be a priest for us. Melchisedec as a man was filled with the divine Spirit of God and this qualified him to be a priest of God. If Melchisedec was not made of flesh and blood he could not be a priest and represent man before God.

On the question of being salvational. I would add that a wrong method of Bible study method may not produce the full effect for decades. I know that our denomination was able to insert the idea in 1931 that the Holy Spirit was a separate being. Did the above letter play a part in that? I don't know when it was released. For all I know it could be a "donation of Constantine" to move an unsuspecting people who have lost the faithfulness of applying Miller's rules towards the abominations we now see in the church.

Brethren on this point, one of the key reasons I held onto the Trinity was because of M.L Andreasen. I knew He visited Ellen White and directly asked her about the Life original and unborrowed quote and I know he became a Trinitarian. I used this line of reasoning to believe that Ellen White must have told him she was a Trinitarian - how else could he become one I reasoned. Yet all of this is a denial of the Bible being its own expositor. I allowed third party history to be a deciding factor in my belief system and it cost me several years in bondage to the Trinity.

Brothers, my heart is warm to all of you and I have delighted in this discussion together. I am only expressing what is on my heart and trust each will take to the Lord what we have discussed and place it before Him and seek out the truth. We have been in such deep deep darkness for the past 50 years. I want all the light I can get and I know I must be rigid in applying Miller's rules to get it.

Thanks Adrian - It seems to me that the White Estate assistant director which Brother Frank kindly listed on his blog response has used a lot of assumptions to establish their view. Particuarily disturbing to me is their comments on SN Haskel. Adrian whether the mysterious figure of Melchisadec was the Holy Spirit or not makes no impact on the support of a trinity or not. If it were the case as you allude to that it supports the idea that the Holy Spirit was a person then I feel sure there would be more weight put on this testomony of GB Starr by those who would promote this veiw.

That's a fair point Kelvin. I guess that is why when we move into this arena, the bottom gives way and we can never really be sure.

As you and I discussed, If Haskell held this view it surely did not turn him into a Trinitarian. So once again, it can't be used as conclusive proof.

Was blessed to do a study in the Spirit of Prophecy to see if Sister White identifies who has come from heaven in human form. This is just a sampling of many statements.

What you will first discover is who did not come in the form of humanity.

"Greater works than these shall ye do because I go to My Father." He would intercede for them, and would send them His own representative, the Holy Spirit, who would attend them in their work. This representative would not appear in human form, but by faith would be seen and recognized by all who should believe in Christ."{RH, October 26, 1897 par. 3}

I believe this is why:
…Christ tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, "the Spirit of truth, which the Father shall send in My name." "I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" [John 14:16, 17]. This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter. Again Jesus says, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth" [John 16:12, 13].{14MR 179.2}

After the Fall Christ became Adam's instructor. He acted in God's stead toward humanity, saving the race from immediate death. He took upon Him the office of mediator. Adam and Eve were given a probation in which to return to their allegiance, and in this plan all their posterity were embraced.{9MR 237.1}

In the fullness of time Christ was to be revealed in human form. He was to assume the position of head of humanity by taking the nature, but not the sinfulness of man.--Letter 91, 1900, p. 6. (To "Dear Brethren," June 26, 1900.){9MR 237.2}

God saw that the world was destitute of true knowledge, and he sent Christ into the world to live the law, and thus represent him. "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us . . . full of grace and truth." The Truth, the Life, and the Light of the world, was to find a place in the hearts of men. For this Christ clothed his divinity with humanity. This was the only means by which he could reach humanity. Christ became one with the human family. He spoke in the language of men. He ate with them at their tables. He bore with them their trials and poverty, and shared their toils. Thus he assured them of his complete identification with humanity. {YI, March 19, 1903 par. 2}

Jesus was the light of His people--the Light of the world--before He came to earth in the form of humanity. The first gleam of light that pierced the gloom in which sin had wrapped the world, came from Christ. And from Him has come every ray of heaven's brightness that has fallen upon the inhabitants of the earth. In the plan of redemption Christ is the Alpha and the Omega--the First and the Last.{PP 367.3}

The incarnation of Christ, his divinity, his atonement, his wonderful life in heaven as our advocate, the office of the Holy Spirit,--all these living, vital themes of Christianity are revealed from Genesis to Revelation… "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood [that is, continues to receive the words of Christ, and practise them], hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed; and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him." "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."{SpTEd 235.1}

Continuing the Spirit of Prophecy Study- smilies/smiley.gif

We know evil angels also come in the form of men.

Thus men came to Christ. And mingling with his hearers were angels in the form of men, making their suggestions, criticizing, misapplying, and misinterpreting the Saviour's words. Christ presented the truth in the form of parables. This was the only way in which he could rebuke sin without causing personal offense.{RH, August 11, 1903 par. 11}

God conferred great honor upon Abraham. Angels of heaven walked and talked with him as friend with friend. When judgments were about to be visited upon Sodom, the fact was not hidden from him, and he became an intercessor with God for sinners. His interview with the angels presents also a beautiful example of hospitality.{CC 50.2}

In the records of Genesis we see the patriarch at the hot summer noontide resting in his tent door under the shadow of the oaks of Mamre. Three travelers are passing near. They make no appeal for hospitality, solicit no favor; but Abraham does not permit them to go on their way unrefreshed… This kindness he showed them simply as wayfarers, passing strangers, who might never come his way again. But, the entertainment over, his guests stood revealed. He had ministered not only to heavenly angels, but to their glorious Commander, his Creator, Redeemer, and King. And to Abraham the counsels of heaven were opened, and he was called "the friend of God." . . .{CC 50.3}

The privilege granted Abraham and Lot is not denied to us. By showing hospitality to God's children we, too, may receive His angels into our dwellings. Even in our day angels in human form enter the homes of men and are entertained by them. And Christians who live in the light of God's countenance are always accompanied by unseen angels, and these holy beings leave behind them a blessing in our homes.{AH 445.3}

William Miller was blessed by an angel in human form.
The instigator of all evil sought not only to counteract the effect of the Advent message, but to destroy the messenger himself. [William] Miller made a practical application of Scripture truth to the hearts of his hearers, reproving their sins, and disturbing their self-satisfaction, and his plain and cutting words aroused their enmity. The opposition manifested by church-members toward his message, emboldened the baser classes to go to greater lengths; and enemies plotted to take his life as he should leave the place of meeting. But holy angels were in the throng, and one of these, in the form of a man, took the arm of this servant of the Lord, and led him in safety from the angry mob. His work was not yet done, and Satan and his emissaries were disappointed in their purpose.{GC88 336.3}

A beautiful quote to finish with:
…Our Redeemer came in the flesh to condemn sin in the flesh, to lay hold of the repenting soul with an unyielding grasp, and at the same time to grasp the throne of God, becoming the connecting link between humanity and divinity, between earth and heaven. He is the only refuge for the guilty soul. In searching to know God, man is directed to Christ, who lived out the law of God, and manifested to the world the attributes of the Father. In the Son of God the inexpressible goodness of God is revealed; for in Him mercy and truth meet together, righteousness and peace kiss each other. "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ in the flesh, condemning sin in the flesh, was a perfect revelation of God to the world. Christ declared: "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."{ST, July 3, 1907 par. 3}

Brethren, it does seem that this subject has brought a great deal of contemplation.
I think we need to be careful not to interpret what is revealed in the scriptures so as to align with our own thoughts or bias, this is not being honest with the text, lets read the bible for what it says.

Let’s continue to study and go by the rules of objective biblical interpretation rather than subjective reading. blessings to all

Perhaps I should check this site out more often...

Kelvin, Ellen White makes very clear that Melchizedek was a holy man.

Many persons will meet all inferior demands and dues, and leave to God only the last gleanings, if there be any. If not, his cause must wait till a more convenient season. Such was not the course pursued by Abraham. Upon his return from a successful military expedition, he was met by Melchizedek, "king of Salem, and priest of the most high God." This holy man blessed Abraham, in the name of the Lord, and the patriarch gave him tithes of all the spoils as a tribute of gratitude to the Ruler of nations. {RH, May 16, 1882 par. 24}

I would trust this over a report of documented heresay.

Thanks Brendan appreciate your comments - I am not dogmatic on the position that I have outlined above, I freely admit that I may have it wrong. Lets consider this, if as SN Haskell and GB Starr have declared as first hand witnessess that Sister White stated that Melchisidec was the spirit of God, then I still do not see the incongruance with the statment from R&H. He was obviously a Holy Man! but pehaps a Holy man just like the Holy man that was walking on the grounds at avondale just over 100 years ago. As I have stated above let's be careful not to dilute the clear inspired imperitaves that have been applied to this person. Yours and His Kelvin

Kelvin, I believe that the memory of these men may not have been perfect on the matter. I believe that Melchizedek was a man imbued with the Holy Spirit... I personally lean towards the identification of Melchizedek being that of Shem, Noah's son.

When speaking of Melchisedec in Hebrews 7:10, it has the following amazing statement that makes it easy to see that yes, He is in fact one of the three persons in the Godhead.
  • Hebrews 7:10, "For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him."

To be in the "loins" of one's father is to be unborn as of yet. The word "loins" is actually translated as "semen."

LOINS = Strong’s # 3751 osphus {os-foos'} of uncertain affinity; TDNT - 5:496,736; n f
 AV - loins 8; 8

 1) the hip (loin)
    1a) to gird, gird about, the loins
 2) a loin, the (two) loins
    2a) the place where the Hebrews thought the generative power (semen) resided

When speaking of Abraham, Hebrews 7:10 clearly says this is "when Melchisedec met him." Only a God can do that! Is it not written that God told Jeremiah the prophet that before he was formed in his mother’s womb that He knew him? In Jeremiah 1:4-5 it clearly says, "Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

  • Hebrews 7:1-8, "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth."

“THE HOLY SPIRIT IS CHRIST’S REPRESENTATIVE, but divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof.” – The Desire of Ages, p. 669:2.

If the above statement to Elder Colcord is valid, Ellen White depicts Melchisedec as representing the Son of God as His One Eternal Holy Spirit in the earth before the Incarnation of Christ and His second coming. The Review and Herald of 2-18-1890, says that Melchisedec was also the representative of the Father. The only interpretation one can make of the above Ellen White statements in order that they not contradict the following statements by Ellen White concerning the identity of the Holy Spirit, is that Melchisedec in some especial way represented the Father and the Son in the earth before the Incarnation, because Ellen White later elucidated that the Holy Spirit then (At Christ's Incarnation) became the life of Christ's soul that was (laid aside) and given (imparted) to us as a crowning, highest good, regenerating gift:

"Christ declared that after his ascension, he would send to his church, as his crowning gift, the Comforter, who was to take his place. This Comforter is the Holy Spirit,--the soul of his life, the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. With his Spirit Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin.
In the gift of the Spirit [HIS LIFE--THE SOUL OF HIS LIFE], Jesus gave to man the highest good that heaven could bestow...The Spirit was given as a regenerating agency, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail.... It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given his Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress his own character upon the church." E.G. White, Review and Herald Articles, May 19, 1904, vol. 5, p. 42.

"He (Christ)suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which WAS His." Desire of Ages, p. 25; 1 Cor. 11:24-265, cf. John 6:53, 54, Titus 3:5, 6.

One of the greatest evidences that Christ laid aside His Son of God life at His Incarnation, and that it remained in heaven while Christ was on earth, is John 3:13. Jesus is speaking face to face with Nicodemus, yet He says the Son of Man is in heaven:

"And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven." John 3:13.

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." II Cor. 3:17.

“Cumbered with humanity Christ could not be in every place personally, therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them to go to His Father and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit.” E.G. White, (Manuscript Releases Volume 14 (No’s 1081-1135) MR No.1084.

Additional Statements by Ellen White on Melchisedec--Christ has Spoken all Through the Generations of the Past

"It was Christ that spoke through Melchisedec, the priest of the most high God. Melchisedec was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. And all through the generations of the past, Christ has spoken; Christ has led his people, and has been the light of the world. When God chose Abraham as a representative of his truth, he took him out of his country, and away from his kindred, and set him apart. He desired to mold him after his own model. He desired to teach him according to his own plan. The mold of the world's teachers was not to be upon him. He was to be taught how to command his children and his household after him, to keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment. This is the work that God would have us do. He would have us understand how to govern our families, how to control our children, how to command our households to keep the way of the Lord." E.G. White, Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, 02-18-90, pr. 10.

"The high priest was designed in an especial manner to represent Christ, who was to become a high priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. This order of priesthood was not to pass to another, or be superseded by another." E.G. White, The Spirit of Prophecy Volume Two, pr. 01, p. 13.

Melchisedec Was a Type of Christ

"Having been both king of Jerusalem and also priest of the Supreme God of heaven and earth, he is set forth as a type of Christ, who also united the office of king and priest in Himself (Ps 110:2-4; Heb 6:20 to 7:21)." SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 8, p. 703.

The type Melchisedec met antitype in the Son of God at His incarnation, and that office ended with the Son of God being the offerer and the offering or both, priest and sacrifice. The Son of God was thus made the representative of God and Christ in the earth, when the Son laid aside His life in sacrifice as a regenerating gift to us.

Christ Was Made a Priest After the Order of Melchisedec After His Incarnation

"If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need [was there] that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?" Heb. 7:11.

If the Son of God was already a priest after the order of Melchisedec from the time He was begotten, then He would not have had to be raised after the order of Melchisedec.. The words "should rise" suggest a future act and that act occurred at the Incarnation of Christ.

The only faithful FOREVER priest is Christ, made after the order of Melchisedec. The Son of God was the Holy Spirit made after the order of Melchisedec after His Incarnation. That is when He became a faithful high priest. He was representated in the earth as Melchisedec before His Incarnation. Likewise, He was and still is represented also as Michael, the Arcangel, see Daniel 12:1 and Jude 1:9.

"So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec." Hebrews 5:5, 6.

We are told that Christ was both the priest and the sacrifice. Notice:

"Christ has purchased the world by making a ransom for it, by taking human nature. He was not only the offering, but He himself was the Offerer. He clothed His divinity with humanity, and voluntarily took upon Him human nature, making it possible to offer Himself as a ransom." E.G. White, Manuscript 92, 1899. SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 7a, p. 460.

Christ was no longer just the Son of God after His Incarnation. He became united with humanity forever. He became a priest after the order of Melchisedec.

"For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abrham. Wherefore in all things it bhoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he Himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted." Heb. 2:16-18.

What does Ellen White mean when she said that Christ was not the Holy Spirit? She could only mean that Christ is not the Holy Spirit in the sense that He laid aside that ONE ETERNAL HOLY SPIRIT LIFE for us. The Holy Spirit is omnipresent and Christ is not. But the Holy Spirit is the former life that was that of Christ who was begotten and made a high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

"Literally, 'emptied Himself.' This emptying was voluntary (see on John 10:17, 18). It was not possible for Christ to retain all the tokens of divinity and still accomplish the Incarnation." SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 155, col. 1.

If Christ's humanity cumbered His omnipresence, then omnipresence must be one of the "tokens of divinity" that Christ still does not possess for eternity because He retains His humanity forever.

"Jesus our surety entered the 'holy places,' and appeared in the presence of God for us. But it was not with the hope of obtaining something for us at that time, or at some future time. No! He had already obtained it for us on the cross. And now as our High Priest He ministers the virtues (benefits) of His atoning sacrifice to us." Answers to Question on Doctrine, p. 381.

What Does All This Prove?

These facts prove that Melchesidec, DURING HIS GENERATION, was appointed by God as the acting, Holy Spirit third person representative of the Godhead in the earth DURING HIS GENERATION which was prior to Christ's Incarnation. After the Son's Incarnation, Ellen White defines the Holy Spirit as the very life and soul of Christ, laid aside as a divine nature regenerating gift for us. It was at His Incarnation that Christ was made a high priest after the order of Melchisedec. Heb. 5:5, 6.

Recall Ellen White's qualifying words:

'She (Ellen White) replied, "I will tell you who Melchisedec was. He was the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, who took the form of humanity and represented the Lord Jesus Christ TO THAT GENERATION.."

"The Holy Spirit is the breath of spiritual life in the soul. The impartation of the Spirit is the impartation of the life of Christ. It imbues the receiver with the attributes of Christ. Only those who are thus taught of God, those who possess the inward working of the Spirit, and in whose life the Christ-life is manifested, are to stand as representative men, to minister in behalf of the church." Desire of Ages, 805.

The only impartation of the life of Christ is the impartation of His Divine Nature which He had before His Incarnation. After that, He was also of human nature.

"Christ took upon Himself humanity, and laid down His life a sacrifice, that man, by becoming a partaker of the divine nature, might have eternal life." E.G. White, Selected Messages, vol. 3, p. 141.

What about “In the Name…of the Holy Spirit”?

But they were also to baptize in the name of the Holy Spirit, because the Father uses that Spirit—His Spirit—as the power through which the begettal is performed (Rom. 8:16).

This is what the passage means! God gives Christians His Holy Spirit, which is His seed. When they receive that seed, it gives them God’s name—they become heirs with Jesus Christ. From the point of conversion, Christians carry the name of God. When understood, this is why the name of the true Church has always been the “Church of God.” The word “Church” (Greek: ekklesia) literally means “the called out ones”—human beings are called out of the world, begotten as God’s children, put into His Church and given His name.

Note what John said about the “seed” within converted people: “Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for His seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (I John 3:9). The Greek word for “seed” is sperma, from which comes the English word “sperm.” The Holy Spirit is the “sperm” or “seed” of God.

Notice another scripture, adding light to what the seed of God is: “Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that you love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again [begotten], not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever” (I Pet. 1:22-23).

While Christians will ultimately be born again into the kingdom of God at the resurrection, they are, at conversion, BEGOTTEN of God through the Holy Spirit. This is similar to the human reproductive system. As soon as the sperm of a father attaches to the egg of the mother, a child is conceived. The child is not yet born, although he is begotten of the physical seed—the father’s sperm. We, once we have received the Holy Spirit—the seed of God—are begotten in this life, but not yet born! Like any human father who would say that his wife is carrying his child, God speaks of the Church—described as the “Mother” of Christians (Gal. 4:26; Heb. 12:22; Rev. 12)—as carrying His children.

So then, does Matthew 28:19 establish the trinity? Clearly not! It simply reveals that when we are baptized, we are given God’s name through His Spirit.

Romans 8:9

Let’s further examine the begettal process before returning to other scriptures. Notice Romans 8:9: “But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.” This passage represents what could be called the Christian “DNA test.” Everyone recognizes that one must have a man’s genes to be his biological child. God is the same. Without God’s Spirit, one cannot be His begotten child.

We can understand more about the process of spiritual begettal by examining the actual process of human begettal. In reproduction, an egg must be fertilized by a sperm cell, which then “seals off” the egg. The egg can never be fertilized by another sperm.

Now consider. Romans 8:9 spoke of Christians receiving in the same begettal the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ. Are these two different Spirits—yet, Christ said, “I and My Father are One” (John 10:30)? If they were two different spirits, this still would not validate the trinity. It would mean that there are four, not three, beings—God and His Spirit and Christ and His Spirit—in the Godhead.

Upon baptism and the laying on of hands (the point at which one receives the Holy Spirit), Christians are begotten by the Father, just as Christ was begotten in Mary’s womb by the Father. Once they are begotten, Christ lives in them (Gal. 2:20). At that point, they have the spirit of both Christ and the Father dwelling in them—which are one and the same Spirit. It is through this Spirit that Christians take on the mind of Christ (Phil. 2:5).

It is important to recognize that a Christian can, however, “abort” in this lifetime—if he does not continue in the right path. It is possible to lose the Holy Spirit, and bring the new begotten life to an end. Notice: “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame” (Heb. 6:4-6).
