History
The Encore Singers is a chamber group based in Montgomery County, Maryland. It was founded in the mid-1980s by a group of Einstein High School alumni, who gathered in one member’s living room on a regular basis to socialize and sing the choral music they had sung as teens. When their former director, John Scott, retired from the Montgomery County Public Schools, he joined the Encore Singers as director, and the ensemble grew in size and professionalism and began performing in public venues. Upon the death of John Scott in 1994, the group approached Mr. Scott’s friend and colleague, John Preston, who had retired as choral director at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School; he became the second director of the Encore Singers. When Mr. Preston moved out of state in 2007, Mrs. Rose Eide-Altman, who had previously served as Encore’s accompanist, became its third director. In 2018, Mrs. Jennifer Boice took up the baton!
