"The Crossjacks" Is Seeking A Fiddler!
The Crossjacks is looking for a replacement fiddler to accompany a singer/guitarist/concertinist at Renaissance, pirate, medieval, viking and other fun festivals throughout the mid-Southeast region.

Our repertoire includes Celtic and Old World folk music, sea chanteys, maritime music, and a few  modern festival favorites. We also want to continue to include jigs, reels, old-time music and other instrumentals. There is a lot of room for other genres and experimentation, too.

We are an established act with a great reputation, and we have gigs lined up for the spring and fall festival seasons. Many of the festivals we performed at in previous years are asking us back. We are primarily a music act, but we also strive to be interactive and have some fun with our audiences.

The right person for the job will be stable, mature, easy-going, fun-loving and drama-negative, with a passion for performing and a good stage presence. They will feel comfortable interacting and having fun with the band and the audience during performances. Some requirements:
  • Must be able and willing to rehearse at least once a week to get started, in order to learn our repertoire and become familiar with the act.
  • The ability to sing is a plus. The ability to play multiple instruments is a *big* plus.
  • Must have realistic expectations. The Crossjacks is not a full-time act (yet). No one is making a fortune doing this (now, and probably not ever). We do cover all expenses and have money in our pockets when we come home, and we have a lot of fun in the process.

As we are a festival band, we have a couple of unique additional requirements for this position:
  • Must be able and willing to travel. We plan to play around a dozen festivals this year in the spring and fall months; all are on Saturdays and Sundays. We travel up to 500 miles for festivals. Friday and/or overnight travel on Sundays is sometimes required. The other members of the band work full-time during the week and are flexible enough to manage it. We do have a small motor home for travel and lodging.
  • Must be able and willing to perform in costume, and to provide his or her own costume. This doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. We can provide guidance!

I'd also like to begin to book local gigs, either as The Crossjacks or as a separate group.  I love to play out, and would like to do it more than is possible for our current fiddler.

Be sure to poke around this website to learn about our act and what we do. Our Facebook page and our YouTube channel in particular are good places to check out. If you're interested, drop me a line. The sooner, the better; this position is essentially open right now and we want to fill it pronto. Our first confirmed gig for the season is in April, but others may come up sooner.
