April 7 - Visit to Old Sound Forge Recording Studio

For our April meeting, members will visit Old Sound Forge recording studio and audio reseller in Mystic, CT. Old Sound Forge founder, Dave Cope, will be our host.

Feb 3 - Listening Session

Our February meeting will feature a listening session focused on a "Duets" theme. Members will bring music that they think will be new and/or interesting to the membership. Meeting to be held in Gales Ferry, CT.

CAS welcomes guest speaker Bob Morgan, former producer at Columbia Records. We will also elect our annual Board of Directors. Meeting to be held in Killingworth, CT. 

October 14 - History of Stereophony

Member Tom Fine will present on the History of Stereophony. Tom grew up as son of high-fidelity recording pioneers Robert Fine and Wilma Cozart Fine of Mercury Records. Tom, himself a recording engineer, has a deep understanding of recording techniques past and present. Meeting to be held in Avon, CT.

August 5 - Summer BBQ and Amp Shootout

CAS will hold its annual Summer BBQ serving up traditional southern BBQ. The meeting will also feature an amplifier shootout where members showcase amplifiers that they have either modified, restored or built from scratch. Traditionally, we have auditioned speakers at the Summer BBQ but this year it's amplifiers. These shootouts are always a lot of fun and we get to audition a wide range of members' achievements. Meeting to be held in Westport, CT.

June 3 - Live Recording with Mark Naftalin

For the first time in it’s history, the CAS will be hosting a Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame musician. Keyboard player Mark Naftalin of the legendary Paul Butterfield Blues Band will be joining us. Mark Naftalin's bio is impressive: "Mark Naftalin appears on the historic first four albums by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band released in the mid 1960's. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Naftalin has also recorded with many blues players including John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson, Big Joe Turner, James Cotton, Mike Bloomfield, Jake Walker and Van Morrison, and as a sideman on over 100 albums. He played keyboards on the first Mother Earth album, 'Living With the Animals' (1968) and was credited as  co-producer and arranger." Session to be held in Fairfield, CT.

April 29 - April Audio and Verity Audio Audition

Member CK will demonstrate his April Music equipment of which he owns several pieces. He also will talk about April Music equipment in general and will demo his new Verity Audio Lenore speakers. Other members have had positive experiences with Verity Audio's Parsifal speakers and found that they married well with April Audio electronics. Meeting location: Fairfield, CT.

February 4 - DIY Speakers

Our meeting topic is Do-It-Yourself speakers. Anything that was made or modified by a member qualifies.  Members will talk about the design, construction, and/or modifications that they made.  Whether built from scratch, rebuilt to be like new or a commercial speaker with "improvements," we will see and hear them all.  Each speaker owner will be given a few minutes to speak about their goals for the project and the design choices they’ve made.  Then, we will play them! Meeting to be held in Stamford, CT.

Vinyl pressing comparisons - We will be sampling a variety of vinyl pressings to detect changes in sonic presentation. In addition, we will elect the Board members for 2017. Meeting to be held in Killingworth, CT.

October 1 - Review Three Audio Test Applications

We will review three popular audio test applications: AudioTools for Apple iOS, Fuzzmeasure for the Mac, and the Dayton Audio OmniMic for the Windows. Each offering has its strengths and weaknesses and we will get a chance to compare them. Meeting to be held in Avon, CT.
