My mom’s recipe
Makes about 3 dozen
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
Sanding sugar (optional)
Cinnamon-sugar mixture (optional)
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
3. In the bowl of an electric mixer on medium speed, cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add vanilla extract and sour cream, and blend until well mixed. Reduce speed to low and gradually add dry ingredients, mixing until just blended.
4. With a heaping 1-inch cookie scoop or a heaping tablespoon, drop cookies onto prepared pans about 2 inches apart. Sprinkle with sanding sugar or cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, rotating pans halfway through. (Bottom edges should be just slightly brown.) Let cool on pans for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
