Who is G.J. Stoney?

George Johnstone Stoney also known as G.J. Stoney was born on February 15, 1826 in Country Offaly. Stoney went to Trinity College in Dublin. He graduated from Trinity College with a B.A.. Later in life he was asked to be a professor of Natural Philosophy at Queens College Galway. He died in London in the year 1911. While still living, Stoney suggested electricity was made of negative particles. he called theses called these electrons.

What did he discover?

Stoney calculated the magnitude of the atom using the kinetic theory of gas. From his work the term "electron" was coined.

WStoney worked as a physicist and an astronomy assistant. He published seventy-five scientific papers.
