Arilon Chronicles News

Newark Book Festival

posted Aug 1, 2017, 2:32 PM by Wilf Morgan

Saturday and Sunday, 15th - 16th of July were the dates for the Newark Book Festival 2017. The previous two years, the event was known as Books in the Castle and was situated in the grounds of the historic Newark Castle. This year, the festival expanded to new levels as events were held at venues right across Newark.

My stand was in the Market Place, transformed for the weekend into the 'Literature Quarter'. Alongside other great authors and booksellers, it was a great weekend and I got to meet all kinds of readers and browsers. Particularly exciting to meet were those who remembered me from previous years and wanted to say hello and see what Arthur and Teresa were up to in Arilon!

It also saw the second outing of the 'Arthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle - The Collected Edition'. The collection of Parts 1 and 2 of the Secret of Waterwhistle into a single volume continued to be extremely popular and helped introduce newcomers to the opening Arilon Chronicles tale by giving them the entire exhiliarating adventure in one mind-blowing hit!

It was a fantastic occasion and I'm certainly looking forward to heading back there again next year. (And the bacon buttie stand nearby is in no way influencing my desire to return. Honest.)

Lowdham Book Festival

On the 24th June 2017, I was very fortunate to be invited to attend the world famous Final Saturday of the 2017 Lowdham Book Festival. It was a fantastic day, as it is every year, and I had the good fortune to be situated in between the amazing Ukranian wartime drama of Maria Diedzan and the incomparable British historical fiction of Stephen Taylor.

It was also a special event for the Arilon Chronicles because it saw the official launch of the 'Arthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle - The Collected Edition'. This book collects Parts 1 and 2 of the Secret of Waterwhistle into a single volume and proved extremely popular, completely selling out in one day.

I met many friendly and enthusiastic readers, eager to delve into the world of Arthur Ness - and more than a few adults purchased it with absolutely no intention of handing it over to the children it was aimed at! Everyone from teenagers to middle-aged people (like me!) to pensioners appeared enthralled by the promise of dark magic and fantastic adventures. And why not?

I'm looking forward to attending the festival again next year and I know I'll have to bring extra carrier bags - even as an exhibitor, I somehow managed to buy my weight in books from other stands around the hall...

Arilon Chronicles 3 Release Date

posted Jan 24, 2017, 2:35 PM by Wilf Morgan   [ updated Aug 1, 2017, 1:16 PM ]

Exciting news - I have finally settled on a release date for the third book in the Arilon Chronicles!

Teresa Smith and the Queen's Revenge, Pt 1 will be released on Thursday 1st March. If that date sounds familiar, it's because it's also World Book Day 2018. What better time to throw Teresa and Arthur head-first into new perils, danger and ship-to-ship cannonfire?

Following the pattern of the first Arilon Chronicles story, it will be in two parts with the concluding part coming out in 2018.

It will continue the story directly from the end of Arthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle, Pt 2 with war breaking out in Arilon between the Royal forces of the terrifying Queen and the brave resistance forces led by the Cat and Bamboo. There will be other returning characters including, Captain Thrace, Iakob, Iosef and Sam. And of course, Arthur and Teresa will return although this time, the central focus of the story will be on Teresa as she begins to get worrying premonitions about events that are about to unfold in Arilon...

Keep checking back here for more news on the book as the release date draws closer!

Trust Me, I'm a Book Launch

posted Jan 22, 2017, 2:40 PM by Wilf Morgan   [ updated Aug 1, 2017, 1:30 PM ]

So, what did you launch?
It was the launch of 'Trust Me, I'm a Thief'. It's the first of the 'Arilon Tales' books - stories which take place alongside the main Arilon Chronicles saga and feature different characters that live in that world. 'Trust Me, I'm a Thief' takes place between parts 1 and 2 of 'Arthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle' and features the Rogue's Run Trio - three smugglers who become embroiled in a plot to make a delivery that will affect the entire sequence of events in 'Secret of Waterwhistle Part 2'. And what's more, it's an interactive story - you, the reader, make the choices on how the story will go, turning to the relevant pages as you try to guide our hapless criminals to victory and away from the unrelenting Royal Captain Raynor who is mercilessly hunting them down..!

So how did the book launch go?

Brilliantly! This was in October 2016 at a brilliant bookshop called The Bookcase. It all started with a very polite young boy named Seb whose excellent manners and infectious enthusiasm for reading set the tone for an extremely enjoyable day! There was a steady stream of visitors over the course of the four hours between 10am and 2pm. There were children I'd met before when visiting various schools as well as others I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time. Judging by the interest taken by everyone who visited, I think it's safe to say that Arthur, Teresa, the Professor, Lake and Ajo will have lots more friends accompanying them on their future adventures! (Which is a good thing because I've started writing the next book and believe me, they're going to need all the help they can get...)

What kind of stuff did you get up to?
Competitions! That's what! Everyone who visited had the chance to enter two separate competitions. First, there was the World Famous Fiendish 88Tales word search. Anyone who could find all 10 hidden words got their name entered into a draw to win a fantastic prize... to have a character in the next Arilon Chronicles book named after them!

Anything else?
Of course. The other competition! I did say there were two competitions, remember that part?

Oh yeah, sorry. You're right.
I know I'm right. Can I continue please?

Yes, of course.
Thank you. So, the other competition was a draw to win an original pencil drawing I did of the Professor, Lake and Ajo from 'Trust Me, I'm a Thief'.

Each person who came along was also entered into the prize draw for this picture and the winner of that draw was notified a few days later that they were the brand new owners of this (let's face it) fantastic piece of original artwork!

Sounds like a great time was had by all. What now?
Now, I get my head down and continue writing 'Teresa Smith and the Queen's Revenge'. I can't say much about it right now - except that Arthur and Teresa are going to be seeing way more of the Queen's magic, powers, minions and secrets than they were counting on. Luckily, they have the Cat on their side. Assuming he really is on their side...

Oh, oh, before you go... where can we get the book?
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me! You can get it via
