The 4 Action Initiative has developed a new curriculum for grades K-12, Learning from the Challenges of Our Times: Global Security, Terrorism and 9/11 in the Classroom. The goal of this new curriculum is to provide teachers and community members with the tools they need to help students understand the challenges of today’s world. Lesson topics extend beyond September 11, 2001. Students learn about the complexities of today’s world; threats to global safety and security and how they can contribute positively to their schools and communities. The 58 lessons draw on new and existing curricula covering multiple subject areas and are organized around seven thematic units from human behavior to the history of terrorism to recovery and building a better future.
The curriculum was released on July 14, 2011 at Liberty Science Center in New Jersey and is available to educators and schools everywhere; there is no charge for the pdf. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like further information about how to bring these lessons to your school or if you are interested in educator training sessions.
The curriculum is available for download at the bottom of this page. We would like to hear from you; please send us your contact information. Because this curriculum is a living, evolving document, let us know how you have used the materials and your ideas for additional lessons and resources. Please join us in this exciting effort!
The 4 Action Initiative is a joint project of Families of September 11, Liberty Science Center and The New Jersey Department of Education, Commission on Holocaust Education.
