Volunteer positions available

Interested in becoming involved?  The following volunteer positions will soon be available.
    The Outings Committee Chair will be open in the late spring/summer 2018.
    The President position will be available and filled in November 2018. The President position is a two-year term and the president     cannot serve consecutive terms.
    The Treasurer position will also be available and filled in November 2018. The treasurer also has a two-year term, but there are no term limits. 

    Job descriptions for these three positions can be found in the club by-laws available on the Taconic Hiking Club website.  

    The Coordinator for the 2020 End-to-End challenge will be available.  If you are interested in this position, it would be good experience to work with the current end-to-end coordinator as we organize the 2018 endurance event.

End to End Endurance Challenge

The 2018 Taconic Crest End-to-End Endurance Challenge will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Registrations are now available on the "End-to-End Challenge" page.  Registrations will be accepted on or after December 1, 2017.

The 2018 Taconic Crest End-to-End Endurance Challenge will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Please save this date as we will need dozens of volunteers to put on another great event.  More information will be available soon regarding volunteer opportunities and registration for the event.  Updates and applications will be posted on the "End-to-End Challenge" page in the fall.

Annual Banquet

The Annual Banquet will be on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 12:00 noon until 4 PM at Moscatiello's, 99 North Greenbush Road (Route 4), Troy, NY.  Mary Coffin will provide a presentation on the North Country National Scenic Trail, with emphasis on the section in NYS and the Adirondacks.  See the Outings page for more information on the banquet and registration.

Preserving Mattison Hollow

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is planning a large logging operation in Mattison Hollow.  The Taconic Hiking Club (THC) and Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) are partnering to preserve Mattison Hollow from the logging.  see the Conservation section of this web site for more information.

Picnic, Sunday, June 12

This year we will have the annual picnic at Peebles Island State Park, starting at noon. Enjoy good food, company, and hike the numerous trails with great views of the river.  See the "Outings" page for more information.

National Trails Day, June 4

Spend the morning of National Trails Day working on the trails at Grafton Lakes State Park. They will have a picnic lunch for all volunteers.  See the "Outings" page for more information.

Winter snowshoe and potluck is January 10, 2016

Once again, Tony Eldering will graciously open his Altamont house to host the annual winter pot-luck and snow shoe. I recall that there is always some excellent food at these events! See the "outings" page, January 10, for more information.
