Welcome to the website of Prof. Athanasios "Thanos" Tzempelikos and his research group.
Dr. Tzempelikos is a Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering (Architectural Engineering specialty area) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, with courtesy appointment in Mechanical Engineering. He received his B.Sc. (1999) from the National University of Athens, Greece, and his M.A.Sc. (2001) and Ph.D. (2005) in Building Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. In 2006-2008 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NSERC Solar Buildings Research Network. He joined Purdue in 2008 as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, starting a new Architectural Engineering program. He became Associate Professor in 2014 and Full Professor in 2019.
Prof. Tzempelikos developed the Facade Engineering Labs and currently conducts most of his research in the Center for High Performance Buildings at the Ray W. Herrick Labs.
Prof. Tzempelikos serves as Editor of Building and Environment, Section Editor of Energy and Buildings and editorial board member of other journals. He is a Fellow of ASHRAE, Chair of the International High-Performance Buildings conference, organized bi-annually by Herrick Labs, and has served as Chair of ASHRAE's Technical Committee 4.5 (Fenestration Systems). He has been listed as one of the top 2% most cited scientists across the globe for 5 consecutive years, according to the Stanford/Elsevier list.
