About Us

The Thames River Fencing Club was established in 1997 and is comprised of fencers of all ages and experience levels. The club is a place where all fencers can meet to hone their skills and engage in friendly competition for Foil, Epee and Saber.

The Thames River Fencing Club meets twice a week at East Lyme Parks and Recreation located at 41 Society Rd, Niantic ,CT (see calendar for hours).

The club is a non-profit organization and our success is due to the efforts of its members and leadership. The club’s leadership includes local coaches and athletes. Dave Gilchrist, Elizabeth Burnham, Al Kiem, Keith Knight, Eric Gauthier, Cathy Mason, Hugh Teel, and Glenn Goettler make up Thames River Fencing Club’s leadership and are themselves experienced fencers. They also bring a high degree of coaching experience which has been instrumental in the club’s success.

Thames Fiver Fencing Club’s open fencing policy welcomes all fencers: anybody can compete against any other fencer on one of six fencing strips. East Lyme Parks & Recreation provides the club with an easily accessible, clean, and well-maintained training environment. The club provides fencing equipment, which is available to any member so that all fencers have the equipment they need to fence on any given night.

Thames River Fencing Club focuses on developing and preparing our members for the next level of fencing, be it youth, high school, college, or USFA, while providing a fun and supportive environment. Our members have fenced all over the country and at all levels of competition.

We welcome any and all, new and experienced, fencers to come and have some fun at Thames River Fencing Club in a friendly and competitive fencing environment.
