Calvin's Sermons on Psalm 46 and 48

posted Nov 2, 2017, 5:52 AM by Logan West
I am very excited to announce this release. These sermons were originally translated into English in 1562 and since then have never been republished, yet they are among some of the most important sermons from the Reformer. For a long time the original manuscripts were believed to be lost. The last two sermons were eventually recovered but the first still only exists in this English translation.

The historical context which occasioned these sermons is really remarkable. In 1560 Geneva was under threat of attack from her enemies, with soldiers amassing and being stationed nearby. The alarm was sounded in Geneva on a Tuesday and the following Sunday Calvin broke from his regular series of preaching to preach these three sermons on Psalm 46, God's being our refuge, we will not be moved, God is in the midst of her, the Lord of Hosts is with us. This was no theoretical application of Scripture for Calvin: their enemies were nearly at the door! They are, as always, sincere, warm, and encouraging and we hope you'll enjoy them as much as we have. It is available on Amazon for $0.99, feel free to check out the rest of our catalogue as well.

I am making the PDF available for free a download. However, since we put a lot of work into providing it and would receive no financial benefit in this way, my stipulation is that a download constitutes a promise from you to actually read the sermons, not simply add them to a collection of files on a computer for possible future use. With that promise received, here is the file.
